L2R mentioned something though that I just HATED when it came to Sunshine. Getting the 100 coin starshines...and those damned blue coins. Trying to backtrack through every level in hopes that you maybe missed a blue coin there and then finding it...was just tedious to all holy hell. Specially since you had no idea as to which ones you might have missed in the first place.

Mario Sunshine blue coins = FUCK YOU NINTENDO.

i pplayed this game once and loved the hell out of it. it may be my reason for buying a wii in the near future. thanks finger!

hu hu, you called him finger

luigi's purple coins are cunty. really really cunty. i just wasted 20 lives on them. still couldn't pass.

aside from it, the most frustrating for me have been the two clean up stages, where you need to clean up the junk with timed bombs in a ridiculously short span of time.

got 74. went from 30 or so to 74 in two days. hadn't played much previously due to various IRL time sinks.

i love mario games and this one is a true masterpiece

Has anybody been able to beat the purple comet in the sand galaxy? I've wasted at least 25 lives and hours of my life trying to beat it. Purple comets are by far the hardest levels of the game!

yeah the sand galaxy with the hole in the discs where you walk through to the other side, and tornado villains that propel you?

yeah did it.

done

120 stars
8656 starbits

luigi's purple coins and the clean up stages were the hardest.

i was treated to a sweet surprise at the full completion. click below if you're impatient. it's definitely worth the trouble imo. :D

now you get to play as luigi! he runs faster but slides, essentially making the game more difficult!
awesome!
i'ma keep playing!

oh man, i love this game!

Heh...yeah. Good call on putting a spoiler on that. I already knew that info, but others may not. I hit 80 stars last night and then just went and beat it since I hadn't done so already. Ending was ok, but the fight with Bowser and his whole level was pure awesome.

But hey...that also explained why I hadn't seen anything with the purple comets and purple coins yet :D I am going to hold off on getting the last 40 stars for a bit. Yesterday was my b-day and I got Alien Syndrome to try out...but I know the reviews for it haven't been good. And I also got the new Advance Wars game on the DS...and if it's anything like the previous AW games...wow. I know what I'll be playing for a while.

damn! there are actually 241 stars in this game :D:D:D

you don't get the real ending until then 8o
or so i read.

done.
241 stars
14086 starbits

i've completely done as much as one can possibly do in that game. great fuckin value. loved every minute of it, even those few minutes where i wanted to break mi wiimote.

Damn, I haven't even beaten it yet 8o...although I have 80 some stars. Just haven't had the time lately.

after successful completion of 120 stars with both mario and luigi, the grand finale galaxy is a nice little ending. collecting 100 purple coins which are pretty much along a path towards the castle with a huge population of characters from the game along the way can be done quickly or slowly.

once you get that extra star, the game send a congratulatory email to your wii which includes a pretty picture of mario and peach.

second time through i noticed that the flying power up was completely wasted. no level requires it except the one where you first get it and the comet observatory. not a huge gripe as flying is really tricky, but to include it and not use it is a bit silly imo.

having seen the final cut scene four times now, i've noticed something pretty cute and sweet. before the last battle, bowser jr has something like a bib tied around his neck. on it is painted lips and fierce teeth. you don't see him strap it over him face, but you see it tied up like a surgical mask over his own mouth. i took photos.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Won't Have A Deep Narrative
Miyamoto says he wants to keep his Mario games light on storytelling.
by Jim Reilly

US, June 15, 2009 - Fans expecting an epic, deep narrative from Nintendo's recently announced Super Mario Galaxy 2 might be disappointed to know the game won't focus on such heavy storytelling.

Speaking to Wired, legendary game creator Shigeru Miyamoto says he likes to keep his Mario games light on story and focus on gameplay, while leaving storytelling to the Zelda franchise.

"I'd like to go with as little story as possible," Miyamoto said. "I've always felt that the Mario games themselves aren't particularly suited to having a very heavy story."

So why can't fans see their favorite Italian plumber star in a game with a serious, Kojima-esque plot?

"I just feel that the Mario games are something that should be a much more bright and active experience," Miyamoto said. "With the Mario games, you don't need to have such a complicated setting where you have these particular characters with complicated backstories that can weigh down the bright and fun feel of the game."

Miyamoto would continue on saying "I feel that even if all that you have is that the villain is just simply a villain and you fight them, and you throw them down, and you find out, well, that wasn't such a bad villain after all, that's enough story for ultimately what is just about a very fun experience."

Can't say I disagree. Do any Mario fans want a deep narrative?

dude, the original smg is one of the best games ever

got the sequel, and well, my uni study is going to suffer. yoshi is in this one :D:D:D:D

about 50 stars into this. loving every minute.

unlike the first, luigi is accessible from early on at random stages, so i have no idea how the 240+ stars works in this game. mario galaxy 2 is just as good as the original, which is my favourite game of all time.

so

much

FUN!

just got the original last month, havent played it tons yet but i am enjoying it so far
