video game: Final Fantasy XII (PS2)

i just started playing this one, not far enough in to make a good comparison. for the record, i've played all the final fantasy games except the online one, and i beat most of them as well. my favorites are probably tactics, six, seven, and ten (possibly my tops).

i want this game so fucking bad. i've played 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10... 7 and 10 were my favorites... is this game (characters, extras, "movie magic; drama") incorporate any of what made those two games good?? i like crying in video games lol

^ I would say, I hate to dissapoint you, but no.

There is no dying Aerith, or Yuna and Tedious kissing in a swamp, if that is what you're looking for

(haha, no offense meant, but in all honesty, I think you and I have opposite tastes when it comes to story).

oh well. if gameplay is exciting... i just finished RE4... I will play. And it's a Final Fantasy. How bad can it be?

sorry guys but comin from an FF nut the series is dead!

last truly great one was 7 (8 sucked,9 good for nostalga,10 was good but story was lackin to me...nothing tear jerking bout it,like in 7 when Aries gets killed)

the stories are just unbearable and i thank god everyday for Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 because those where AWESOME story lines (for the love of god, MICKEY FUCKIN MOUSE seals himself to what could beconsidered death to save Sora!)

Hmm. I've been playing FF games since 7 came out, and I love Final Fantasy. I didn't care for 9,10,10-2, or 11. I'm 8 hours into FF12 and I was getting a little worried until I got the gambit shit going. Now I'm having a great time, and finally, a plot without a stupid-ass love story!

dude the love stories arent always that bad....that was one of the reasons IMO 7 was great cause of Aries love for cloud!

OK, OK...FF7 was so without-a-doubt the greatest ever that the love story got me. But that's the only one. You win, pullstring.

However, anyone remember Xenogears? That's my second favorite to FF7.

i really like FF XII. Although the grinding i'm doing right now is kind of tedious but most RPGs require leveling. Its my favorite next to VI though. Have a copy of Zodiac job system next to me right now and soon*probably next paycheck* i'll be getting a JP ps2 to play it

I actually haven't played a FF i don't like*I've played 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,12, Mystic quest, Crystal Chronicles and Tactics Advanced*. FF 2 used to be hated by me then i played a bit more into it and its pretty good

to be honest this final fantasy sucked ass IMO.

the battle system is OK, it gets annoying jus sitting there waiting for the character your controlling to get his action bar back up to do a move, which makes the battles only fun when its against someone thats actually hard, which BTW rarely ever happend for me. I didnt even sit there and level up once in the entire game. ive jus played the game straight through without any challenge. im at the point in the game right before u fight the last boss and ive only died whenever i fought one of the hidden espers, which i have all of by now.

also the story line jumps round way too much and is filled with plenty of plot holes. i dont know if its just because it was the first FF i ever played completely through, but FF X was one of the best games ive ever played.
this final fantasy jus felt like square enix jus slapped it onto the market as the last FF for the ps2. i think FF XIII will be alot better for the ps3.

Nerdzzz!! Haha jk. At least it's not ffxi. I have a friend that has been playing that game for over 3 years non stop. And when a say non stop, I mean it. I can't remember the last time he left his house. Doesn't work, doesn't go to school, doesn't hang out anymore. Plays ffxi constantly unless he's sleeping. He even makes his mom bring his meals down to his room so he can keep playing. He doesn't go onto the ffxi forums but I guess people will tell him everyone talks about him...bc he plays THAT much so I guess he's good. And I'm seriously not exaggerating..it sucks we used to be best friend but he has chosen ffxi over the rest of his life.

Ah, I see the thread has been revived! since my last point, I had the chance to play blunder through FFXII: International in Japan, only to give up an hour in because the only "international" part of this game is the CG, everything else is still in Japanese. ugh.

I think there are two camps of FF fans.

The first camp (the majority) started playing from FF1, found the series really improving at 6 and 7 (the latter added some pizaz with this now thing called 3D), then had their world shattered at 8 because the game stopped being about little boy loves little girl and saves world.

Then there is the camp that started around 8, 9, or even 10; backtracked, were underwhelmt by the simplicity of pre-7 games, and so, lacking the nostalgia that coloured the judgement of the other camp, were able to enjoy the post-7 games.

I am of the latter, of course. I started at 8. I think 7 is good but has absolutely nothing on Tactics, 8, 10, or 12.
