My doctor recently switched me from norco (hydrocodone/acetaminophen) 7.5 /325 to vicoprofen 7.5/200
Yesterday I had forgotten I took a few for back pain and had a buddy over and started drinking beers...

I'm wondering how safe this is to drink alcohol after taking somewhere around 800mg of ibuprofen and hydrocodone.

I didn't get sick or anything but I know you aren't supposed to drink alcohol with acetaminophen BC of toxic effects on the liver

I take milk thistle and NAC three times a day to help support healthy liver function ...a hold over practice from taking Tylenol chronically...I have my liver numbers checked frequently last time was a month ago and they were normal

I have found very few people that take or talk about vicoprofen let alone mixing with alcohol

Does anyone have any insight as far as safety goes.

My doctor said the worst it would do is make my stomach bleed overdoing ibuprofen but I want another point of view

Basically wondering if ita harmful to drink a few hours after or directly after taking ibuprofen, besides stomach irritation

Thanks a lot, all

safe for 1 night of drinking, for sure. way less toxic than acet.

lol...

why is your doc SWITCHING it to hydrocodone/ibuprofen.. it's called oxycodone >.> you should ask him about that..

BC I asked for it BC I'm paranoid about Tylenol destroying my liver ...I have to go back to the fucking pain clinic if I want something different the most they will givee there is 10mg hydrocodone...I guess.

Safe for one night? As in don't make it common practice e?

I wouldn't really consider taking ANY amount of opioids and alcohol together safe. As long as you don't overdue them you'll probably be "fine", but take too much and you'll end up room temperature. Also, ibuprofen and alcohol are both blood thinners so it very much increases your risk of stomach bleeding (and other things I'm sure) which contrary to what your doctor seems to think, is a bad thing. If you must do this, be very careful.

I think the increased risk of bleeding would be worysome if I had ulcers or random spots bleeding in my stomach or GI tract

My doctor didn't say not to worry about internal bleeding but in comparison of overdoing Tylenol because of chronic pain, and overdoing ibuprofen BC of chronic pain...
The prognosis for ulcers and GI bleed are better than acute liver failure BC of repeated small overdoses of acetaminophen

Its not methadone here. I understand that its a CNS depressant as is alcohol so I wasn't popping pills per shots or anything.

Bottom line before I realized I had taken them I had about 15-30 mg of hydrocodone in my system
1mg ativan and about a six pack...maybe a shot or two...over a period of 6-8 hrs...with the half life of hydrocodone being short I think I was out of the "danger zone"...I stopped drinking when I remembered I had taken the meds

My biggest concern is a later onset problem with toxicity or something
I understand there are huge dangers of lowered resparations when mixing alcohol and opiods...so I'm not going to make a habit about getting fucked up on pills and booze

I'm also 220lbs and have a tolerance to the opioids
