Vic Govt conclusions about 'party drug' use

Yes he was doing his job and pandering to his audience. I understand that, and that's why I do that sort of show, not really to change his mind, or that of his audience, but rather to highlight their biases.

shocking to see harm maximisation being applied - suppression of information like that can't be legal, what are they going to ask every medical support staff person to keep this information from the public?

Nice job, thought you handled that well :)

"Do you sell the stuff?"

pffffttt :\

I don't think these overpaid talkback hosts understand the concept of volunteering beneficial services.

Great work Johnboy. It could have gone better though, that guy was a complete arse. I wonder if he can claim that he has never broken a single law in his life? He kept going on with "yeah but its illegal". So what, there are millions of laws broken everyday and taking XTC is probably one of the least harmful to anyone.

busted

I just heard on ABC 774 Virginia Trioli announce that the Chair of the Vic Govt. Commission on Drugs and crime prevention, Carolyn Hirsch, was busted for drink driving last night and has resigned from the job.

"Bloody idiot" resigns from committee
June 3, 2004

A Victorian government upper house MP caught drink driving overnight has resigned as chair of the parliamentary drugs and crime prevention committee.

Carolyn Hirsh said today she had stepped down from the committee, which is currently inquiring into harmful drinking practices.

Ms Hirsh, 66, said she had given her resignation to Premier Steve Bracks this morning.

She told reporters she was stopped at a booze bus about 11pm yesterday after attending an ALP function celebrating the end of the autumn session of parliament.

After blowing 0.07 - 0.02 above the limit - on a breath test, she was immediately fined $300 and had her licence suspended for six months.

Ms Hirsh said she drank four glasses of white wine during the evening, including two in the last hour.

"I guess, as a female, my metabolism is such that it goes pretty quick," she said.

"It's a lesson, a massive lesson.

"I feel very bad. I've made a very silly mistake, I mean, what a bloody idiot and I've paid a price."

Deputy chair of the same committee, Liberal lower house MP Robin Cooper, said last night's Labor Party function got out of hand.

Detailing a series of incidents throughout the evening, Mr Cooper said a physical fight had broken out at the party, a minister had fallen asleep in the lower house and another government MP was forced to withdraw a threat to an opposition member in the upper house.

Mr Cooper said it was obvious there were a number of MPs severely affected by alcohol.

"One minister fell asleep in the house about half past 10 last night, a minister who should know better considering his portfolio," Mr Cooper said outside parliament.

Mr Cooper refused to identify the minister, but said he should name himself.

"Things have got beyond the pale when people are doing this," Mr Cooper said.

"This government has become arrogant and it's now become threatening."

Hilarious :)

It is still interesting to see how little regard is held when dealing with alcohol. If they viewed it as a 'drug' rather than a social necessity people may treat it differently.
