Yeah, give an 10 mg oxycodone orally to an opiate-naive person, for example, and he/she is really feeling it - really euphoric, really relaxed but mind-blown, great body high, maybe some nausea here and there, maybe a little headache or perhaps a lot of itchiness. Give the same person 10 mg oxycodone orally the day after, and there will not be nearly as "novel" or "prominent" effects for that person - they might still feel wonderful, but it is almost like you have been primed for the opiate, and it is LESS than it would be otherwise. Basically, we are talking tachyphylaxis, which occurs naturally with most drugs if dosed "chronically". So, what you should do, if you would like to preserve that low opiate tolerance, and you DO WANT TO, is what others above have suggested - use opiates sparingly. Hard? For some, not at all, for some, near impossible. If you are in the impossible category, and just must keep taking opiates over and over, I suggest you just stop with them altogether. Opiates are EXTRAORDINARILY addictive for some people, and while the wd's might not be as dangerous as those of alcohol, barbiturates, or benzos, for example, the allure of the opiate can be so strong that it is downright scary how far some will go to obtain them. I think opiates are the most alluring drugs, really, for those who respond "well" to them, for they are subtle in lower doses (or really any dose), but VERY euphoric and VERY relaxing, and you can still get shit done, unless you have taken so much you are in a very deep nod. Also, opiates give a good body high, too, and a feeling of contentment so warm, and relieve almost ANY pain. For all of this, they are EXTRAORDINARILY addictive - that bears repeating. So, if you can, use them sparingly (1 - 2 x monthly) and think of them as a special treat, not an entitled possession, for if you do treat them as a special treat on special occasions (low key or not - whatever) they are less likely to sit in your mind as "those drugs that make everything better, and make me feel fantastic", but instead "those drugs that make everything better, and make me feel fantastic, which are so great to take every now and again - keeping them special and wonderful as they are". Hope this helps.
