Hi everyone
so ive gone through opiate WD time n time again. I've had apon a few occasions, where kinda in the early stages of WD, like the first 24hrs till I get some comfort meds, I get this freakish thick saliva and I can't stop salivating. N it's not the type of salvation that happens when ur nauseous n ur about to puke... That saliva I feel like is thin n watery. This is almost thick. My mouth n throat actually hurt bc unordered to swallow it, I almost have to like mush it to the back of my mouth n swallow it down. It started this morning when I was getting close to the 24hr mark and I've been taking like 6 to 10 30mg oxcodone a day

Usually I start taking GABA early on and I don't normally get this. But this time, I was late taking it before the 24hr mark. I jus find it sooo odd. And it's not like I'm jus making it up. It came on before anything else, otherwise I didnt know I was starting WD Then the sweats started a bit later.
But seriously. This salvia thing is annoying as hell! I tried eating, drinking, everything n nothing has helped. I started taking GABA, but we all know it takes like 2 hrs to kick in.
Like I said, I don't normally get this symptom, but I've def had it before

Has it happened to anyone else?

I had something like that after an incident with too many antidepressants. Brush your teeth real good and use mouthwash every couple of hours. Drink a ton of water. Water will flush everything out. Stay away from dairy, it creates phlegm, and lots of it. If you can, talk/sing as much as you can. As a nurse, if my patient cant speak, oral care is every 2-4hours. Air flow helps cut back the saliva and bacteria from multiplying like crazy. Water water water water. I think thats about all I can think of right now. Good luck, feel better.

I can't say I've ever experienced excess saliva as a withdrawal symptom. I'm curious, do you get the normal teary eyes and runny nose symptoms? The best explanation for water leaking out of all my facial orifices I've heard is that it could be a result of your body having extra fluid because the opiates are leaving your system and they dehydrate most people to an extent. Thus, tears and snot are a result of your body not knowing what to do with the sudden extra fluid supply... Could be true for profuse sweating as well... So if the above is true, your body could be excreting the extra fluid as saliva in your case. It would make since seeing as how opiates cause dry mouth in a lot of folks.

I don't know how accurate that theory is but it makes sense to me because in withdrawals your body basically does everything in the opposite way that it would while on opiates and sometimes exaggerates that response.

Examples:
-Constipation becomes diarrhea
-from lower BP to higher BP / lower heart rate to higher heart rate
-Constricted pupils to dilated pupils.

Hope that gives you some understanding =)

A runny nose is usually a major symptom of opiate withdrawal. Could be some of that mucous is running down the back of your throat and into your mouth, that's right...snot mouth.? ? You might try taking a decongestant to see if that helps clear it up
