Various drugs, and the loss of short-term memory.

Hello everyone.

I am a 20 year old male, and I have done quite my bit of drugs. Mostly stimulants, empathogenic stimulants (MDMA, 4-MMC, Methylone, Butylone), but also dissociatives (Ketamine, Methoxetamine and DXM a long time ago). Off course, there has also been some weed involved from time to time.

Recently, I have noticed, that my short-term memory has been pretty bad. I suppose you could also call it absentminded-ness.
Sometimes, I forget my keys inside my appartment when on the way out. I find myself walking from room to room, because I forget what I was going to get in the bathroom, while walking there.. to put it short: I forget details of things, moments after working with them.

About the absentminded-ness: When I'm working at my factory, I tend to "drift off" into my thoughts, thinking.. constantly.

Lately, and perhaps quite significantly, I have been taking Methoxetamine in the weekends.

The last week or two, I've given it a rest, due to this lack of short-term memory. It has slowly gotten better, and I've gotten more into the reality of day-to-day life, rather than letting my thoughts drift off.

My point:
Have anyone else felt this effect with "your drug"?
How did you experience it?
I know that weed, hashish, or in whatever shade you may ingest it, does this too, but how long does it actually last?

^^^do you smoke a lot of cannabis, coz that affects your concentration for 24 hours after having smoked... otherwise it's unlikely but possible that the drugs you have taken have irreversibly affected ur short term memory, well, it depends how much xtc and ketamine u were taking, i think they (more than the others) could cause the problems ur experiencing

^Agreed, cannabis has that nasty side effect of interrupting working / short-term memory.

I've found that benzos totally f*ck up my memory, as to be expected. Alcohol and barbiturates are similar to the benzos in that respect. However, opiates and stimulants seem to enhance my memory, at least in my experience.

Benzodiazepines greatly screws up your short term memory. It also makes you feel cloudy. You may drift off and forget what the hell it is that your doing. This is especially bad when your driving and this happens. Its easy to forget simple things like where your keys are, where it is that you last kept that thing your looking for and what you need to do.

As for your situation, I'm pretty sure that the ketamine isn't helping. Memory becomes a problem with dissociatives. In fact you can develop a certain disorder that deals with memory and its long term. I'd keep your usage down and same with the Methoxetamine

Methoxetamine/ketamine and regular use thereof will play havoc with your motivation and short term momry. I don't recommend using dissociatives for long periods of time without breaks.

I have found benzodiazepines to be a terror on your short-term memory. Sometimes I forget what day of the week it is or whether its the beginning of the month, middle, or the end. And the countless of appointments I've missed due to this memory loss. I know it's the benzos because I don't smoke weed, never liked cannabis, except when I was in high school.

I've also found heavy use of amphetamines to cause memory problems, similar to benzos but not as bad or as quickly noticeable - it's more subtle and insidious.

I've never suffered any long/short term memory loss from anything that can compare to benzo's. Tree will make me lose maybe something i just sat down or strategically hid. Xanax especially around 2 mg's I'm lucky to remember 50% of the evening.

I agree with the above about benzos and dissociatives affecting memory.

After taking 4meoPCP, after the 12 hour trip, I will be wonky and sem-retarded for another 12-24 hours. Also, I have noticed my memory really sucking (I have CRS - can't remember shit) after taking ketamine and methoxetamine. In fact, for huge chunks of time, my friend will tell me what I did and said, and my parents have even recorded me, and I will not remember like 3 hour chunks at a time. So its kinda like blacking out while seemingly conscious.

And I remember witness how incredible retarded my friend got during a xanax / oxycontin phase. Even when the xanax wore off, he could not remember anything like schoolwork (I tutored him for a while) or our interactions.

Thanks for all the replies guys, it's nice to hear from someone who isn't judging.

I have lowered all my total usage of drugs to only the methoxetamine. my short term memory is CLEARLY affected negatively by it, and it has developed into an actual problem for me.

As sekio mentioned, dissociatives (more so than cannabis, in my case atleast) mess a lot with motivation. Instead of being an anti-depressive, methoxetamine actually depresses me...

Now all that's left, is quitting it.

Have a nice day :)
