Hey guys,..
I haven't posted in. A while. Thus year has been a Rollercoaster trying to lower my morphine and clonazepam use. I'm clean from opiates, but benzos are a fin different league. I was taking anywhere from 2-8mg daily for 5 years. Most of the time 2mg at night tho to induce sleep. I was never prescribed these longterm or by a. Shrink.i just bought then in bulk OTC and thry are relatively cheap
In April of this year I finally experienced what benzo wd is like, I had a shortage for a couple days and couldn't get ahold of some fuck it was excruciating. After this I thought I can't be hooked on these pills 4ever( also I noticed a decline in my cognitive function and memory) so I decided to go see a psychiatrist. I went to see one and I told him to switch me to Valium so I could taper, he was reluctant at first, but after I explained him about what the Ashton Manual was, he agreed. He prescribed me 120 10mg pills in 2 different appts in total.
I've dropped from 40mg to 2.5mg a night over the course of 3 and a half months. At first it was smooth but now I'm experiencing a persistent headache that is annoying asf. Idk whether I should keep dropping my dose to 1mg or .5mg and drop then OR just jump nos from 2.5mg and tough it out for a while.
Anyone have experience with this? How long does the worst part of a benzo wd last? And the paws I've heard sometimes linger on for months or years, is it true? I needa hear/read some benzo quitting stories, if u have lived something similar to me, share it plz this shit is just as bad as opi wd.
Anyway thx in advance guys,

I'd maybe just take some codeine or tramadol hcl and continue your taper of the benzos valium specifically - it has a long half - life. I'm in the same boat. I take between 30-40mg of valium a day and 30mg codeine. Bon courage!

Yeah good luck, but as long as you don't start taking more, you can usually decrease at your own pace. Don't jump off unless your doctor says it's okay, because that can give seizures. And you don't want to go too long without sleeping. And not be in such withdrawal that you'll go back to taking more. Go by what they say. You'll be fine!

The dr I went to doesn't know shit about detoxing from this meds. He just gave me 3 scripts ot diazepam and I'm trying my best to keep tapering. I'm currently at 2.5mg, this shit is starting to feel rough. Idk if I should just jump off them already or keep loweing my dose to 1.5/1mg/0.5. I'm never touching henzos after I'm over with this shit

If you hadn't been on them so long I would say jump now but as you've been on them such a long time it's probably worth getting as low as you possibly can.

You've already done an amazing job to taper down to where you are now, to get to 2.5mg of diazepam from up to 8mg of clonazepam is bad ass, you must have some serious strength and determination, the fact that you have already got yourself off opioids just confirms how strong you are.

I won't sugar coat it, benzo wd is not good but if you can tough out opioid wd you can do the same with benzos.

Generally benzo wd does last longer than opioid wd unless you're talking methadone or buprenorphine, then they are about the same in my experience.

One of the things about benzo wd is that you can go for say 6 weeks without any and you can be feeling much better but then it can reappear again, which I guess is similar to paws with opioids.

In my experience any sort of stress/pressure can cause symptoms to reappear so it's very important to remain as calm as possible, really try to minimize any stress in your life, if you have a good support network this can help a lot.

From my research there really aren't many, if any meds that help benzo wd very much as the problem is the down regulation of the gaba receptors and it just takes time for this to resolve.

As with any wd good nutrition is very helpful, so try to minimize any stress and try to eat as best as you can.

The sedative antihistamines like doxylamine and diphenhydramine can be helpful for getting some sleep.

For me the sedative antihistamines cause my wrestless legs to worsen during opioid wd but this doesn't seem to be the case with benzo wd.

I also find the amino acid L-theanine to be helpful and would take 200-300mg at night along with 400mg of magnesium glycinate, magnesium glycinate is the best form of magnesium as it is highly bioavailable and glycine it'self can be calming.

I also found some quality bud can help, preferably an indica dominant strain, my go to is grand daddy purp if you can get it.

I am slightly toasted as I type this so can't think of anything else helpful so I will just say again, you must be strong as to accomplish what you already have, so don't doubt yourself, you can do it.

Wishing you all the best.

You got them OTC?
I think I need to visit our neighbors.

Anyway, this

doesn't sound like your doctor has any idea of what he's doing. But if you have come so far without him, you can do it all the way. Just keep tapering and think what might be the reason for the headache. How's your sleep? Can it be that you tense at nights, or sleep in a bad position? That happens to me when I'm stressed but decide not to take benzos for different reasons.

Idk man, since I dropped below 5mg, I have this persistent headache that won't go away. Ima try to just jump from 2.5mg in 3 more days. If it gets too unberable, I'll have to reinstate my previous dose, but tbh I'm so sick of taking benzos every God damn day that I'm determined to do this. I've had worse cold turkeys before. I can do this 💪

That sucks, I guess I assumed you were in Western Europe/Canada/US, but I'm sure that some doctors around you are competent.

Yeah, tends to get rough with the last little bit.

I mean I urge you to go slow and listen to your body.

That's a good resolution. They are after all sort of primitive drugs.

More than primitive drugs, it's the fact that they fuck with both GABA/Glutamate system that can really mess up your brain for months(or years in some unfortunate cases). I'm trying my best, man.

For me personally, I’m ALWAYS tense. I have to do these “silly” face stretches I was shown once in therapy. It actually really helps. I didn’t realize how much stress I carried in my face, neck, and shoulders until I started doing those stretches. It’s helps to be mindful of these things. Scrunch your face up in as many positions as you can. Stick your tongue out. It looks funny, but it really does help break the tension. So I often wake up with headaches. Or give myself stress headaches.. that happens quite a bit.

Benzos are super hard to get off, but totally doable. You’re young, which definitely helps things. I think it’s great that you’re doing this now, rather than 10 years from now.

I was put on benzos before I even knew what they were. I learned pretty quickly ;)

Hoping the very best for you :)

Perhaps it is worth it to look into amanita muscaria, @Jabberwocky said it helped him with benzo withdrawal and I've noticed an anxiety relief from it too in low doses.

Hey @nznity how is it going with the benzo taper my friend? I know that stuff is a bitch... hope you are holding on and seeing improvement in your symptoms.
I was 40 days clean but had to reinstate and (relapse you could say) dose myself with some clonazepam due to other health problems. I'm back using clonazepam everyday but from 2-4mg a day I was using, I'm only using 0.5mg every day.
Benzos are a tough bitch, I'll try to quit once again when my overall health improves. Rn I need them.
Agmatine is a must btw, same with propranolol for benzo wds. And gabapentin at least for the acute part.

Good to see you nznity. Glad to hear you are working towards recovery.

I hope your health situation improves

I ended up taking 24mg of diclazepam per day for over a year. I was in the lucky position of being able to pay for an appointment with a specialist. It took 360mg of diazepam per day to substitute and then it took me a year to stop.

I was very motivated but in my case, I think I fried my GABA receptors as when I reached 15mg per day, I couldn't feel it and just stopped. I am aware that that's an unusual reaction.

On a more useful note, diazepam solution is available. That should allow you to drop fractions of a mg at a time. I can find more details if it's of use to you.

They are indeed the drug with the worst hooks; im tapering methadone but its not stressing me out much yet
Every time I drop on clonazepam; its like I need to take more right away, oops
But being stable on benzos there is a lot to be said for that.
My brain seriously feels injured from all the years of reckless clonazepam dosing....
I could conceive of .5/day and be stable on that as well as 5-10 mg methadone and 150 pregabalin.

All that a little cannabis and call it recovery for me
