Valium/Diazepam safe intake window (to avoid dependence)

Squidhead: they give you benzos and Methadone together? Doctors are usually too scared to do that because of the high risk for CNS Depression.

Different doctors...1 guy I see for my back & neck...he's my methadone & neurontin doc. The psychiatrist prescribes the Lexapro & klonopins. My family doctor prescribes the xanax to go with my heart medicine -- Toprol, nitroglycerin & the most expensive 1 of all -- aspirin.8(

Squidhead: Do you tell all your doctors what the other doctors are prescribing you?

Oh most definitely....the last thing I need is the 'big cut-off'. They know how fucked-up my back is, which the docs said leads to depression. So yeah, they each know what the other's prescribing. I'm just a really fucked-up individual.:\

Speaking from personal experience I can tell you that taking 2 days off from valium will not help at all. Valium withdrawals don't even begin until you've been off for a week. I took it for ten months straight, dosing roughly 50-80mgs/day. I took days off, sometimes 3-4 days at a time, and because I never felt any withdrawals in those times I assumed I was not addicted. When I stopped it was cold turkey, and after that first week I began to realize that I was in deep trouble. The withdrawals lasted more than a month and were more horrible than any opiate withdrawal I have ever experience, and I have had some fairly bad opiate withdrawals in my day. Graned, I have not had the massive habits or tolerances that some users have posted about, but I know that I understand opiate withdrawal and believe me, benzo withdrawals are much much worse. The anxiety can be overwhelming, and the mental torture of benzo withdrawal dwarfs the physical discomforts of opiate withdrawal. Had I known what I was in for I would have gone to the ER.

My advice is to avoid benzos altogether.

So the general consensus is you can use for about 10 days with maybe very minor withdrawals... Once you reach the point of using everyday for a month expect to get thru some mild-moderate benzo withdrawal...

Ive currentlyi on a stint with xanax,, Ive been taking maybe 1-2mgs a day for 2 weeks, i wonder How bad it really will be when i stop....

Also in reference to seizures... That is only in the most severe cases are you can get seizures from mild-moderate withdrawal??

I assume dosage plays a huge role in how bad your withdrawal is

Just to throw in a little bit more info about Valium's half-life:

6.3 Biological half-life by route of exposure

The terminal elimination half-life of diazepam ranges from approximately 24 hours to more than two days. With chronic dosing, steady state concentrations of diazepam are achieved between 5 days to 2 weeks. The half-life is prolonged in the elderly and in patients with cirrhosis or hepatitis. It is shortened in patients taking drugs which induce hepatic enzymes, included anticonvulsants. The active metabolite desmethyldiazepam has a longer half-life than
diazepam, and takes longer to reach steady state concentrations. (Klotz et al, 1976a; Mandelli et al, 1978;
Klotz et al.,1975; Andreasen et al., 1976).

A sample of 48 healthy male volunteers ranging in age from 18 to 44 years demonstrated variable pharmacokinetic parameters. This demonstrates the need for further understanding of the variables which determine diazepam absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination (Greenblatt et al., 1989).

You will only get seizures if you are a longtime user with a longtime habit and probably on a high dosage. You will also probably need or most likely have a pre-disposed problem of seizures.

Rocklobster: So that's another documented case that disputes a lot of what has happend in this thread.

I am on methadone 80mls/day, and I only started taking valium last year for the first time. I only took it an odd time and it felt great.
But this year I started taking it more, but I really dont want to get an addiction to it, so I only take it for 2/3 days on the last weekend of the month.. and then wait another 35/40days before taking it again..
Cause my doc said I was giving dirty benzo urines, and I'm clean from H years now, and she told me that it takes 28 DAYS for VALIUM to leave your system so it wont show up in your urine..

so, 28 days is how long it takes to give a valium-free urine, supposedly!

daily use of benzos iz not abuse especially in people with anxiety.people if they go off prozac get wds 2.

its probably already been said, but whatever method you take, the reality is that you are going to be taking benzos regularly. any schedule, whether its once a day or once a week, will lead to psychological dependence. sure, you want to avoid physical addiction and building a tolerance, but no matter what, if you are taking something regularly like that, you are going to become dependent. even if you dont build a tolerance or suffer withdrawals when you quit, you can still be dependent.

especially since you have had an addictive history with opiates, it seems reasonable to assume you are going to get hooked on benzos even if its just mental and even if you use once every couple days or less. as you know, the psychological addiction can often be a lot worse and harder to break than the physical one, so just by working out some schedule doesnt mean you will not become dependent.

if this whole thing is just so you can keep your tolerance down and you are prepared to become psychologically dependent, the so be it and ignore what i have just said. otherwise, be very very careful and take a month-long break every once in a while and see how strong the drug has its grip on you.

all of this assumes you keep to your schedule, which often isnt the case. me and many others here have tried similar techniques to avoid dependence/tolerance, but regardless of the rules you set for yourself (once every other day, twice a week, 6 times a month, whatever) most people find justification to break their own guidelines and end up addicted and using daily.

Bit off topic, but my cousin was busted with valium in his piss 8 days after 20mg.

This would suggest that you should give yourself at least 8 days off to be back to baseline.

Stick to the shorter acting benzos if you are after a hi.

well shit i have been taking valium at 5-25mg a day dosages for about 3months. taking that about 20 days out the month mostly at 10mg a day. Well I just took my last 15mg yesterday, and have no possible way of getting more, I was woundering what my risks of sezuires are?
i was told by a pharmacist with 20 years of experience that seizure from w/ds in the long acting benzo usually only happen after years of use.
valium also has 3 metabolites, temazepam, which is a hypnotic sedative, half life of 8-20 hours which breaks down into oxazepam which half life is 4-14 hours and it breaks down into aswell as diazepam itself breaks down into nordiazepam which half life is 80-200 hours
