im having troubles sleeping... iv heard alot about valerian as a natural sleep aid but does it actually work or is it just another bullshit herb?? cheers

Everyone is different. I think the stuff stinks and does nothing. I took a whole load of it once to see if it had any discernable effects. I got a nice headache. That’s was about it. They have been using as a sleep aid for a great many years though, so it must work for some and not for others.

i had to throw my .02 in ......
i used to have sleep problems awhile ago but now i take melatonin (around 3~6mgs) and it puts me out . it doesnt make you drowsy or fucked up , it just makes you sleep if you close your eyes . good stuff.

idk if you meants stinks as in sucks.. but damn as hell it STINKS LIKE FUCKING CRAZY. it literally smells like complete shit.

yep, the stuff absolutely reeks! and the pills i had were not coated, so they tasted like absolute hell too.
but as far as valerian roots effectiveness...valerian root is NOT something you take to knock you out. it will simply not work. it's not like popping a couple of benzo's and passing out in 30 minutes.
valerian root is a good sleep aid because it helps you get *natural* sleep. it aids you in getting to sleep, it doesn't force you. and thus, you don' wake up drowsy as hell like you would with something like nitol.
melatonin is a good sleep aid as well, but here in canada it is now prescription, because it can have some side effects. the other problem with it is that it doesn't work right away. it needs to be taken for a couple of weeks 2 hrs before bed time to gain the desired effect - a regular sleep pattern. but when it does start working, you will never fall asleep easier.
