Recently I had a three day binge on a-pvp. I ended up experiencing stimulant psychosis which lasted untill I could finally sleep. The experience was rather scary and I am worried that if I continue using stimulants I may put myself at risk for developing something longer lasting (like Schizophrenia)

If I took "safer" stimulants (like ethylphenidate) in a more cautious way (for example: Not staying up for multiple days, avoiding a-pvp, making sure to eat/drink, etc),

Can I use stimulants recreationally without developing something permanent?

TL;DR: Does one episode of stimulant psychosis indicate signs/risks of permanent damage?

No, stimulant psychosis is a result of high dopaminergic transmission while the drug is active, with symptoms resembling those of schizophrenia since they both share a similar neurochemical mechanism.

Stimulants only induce schizophrenic toxicosis in those with a genetic vulnerability. At times in chronic users, psychosis can last extended periods of time causing the user to believe a mental condition is present.

No such thing as a safer stimulant, they all carry similar addictive and side effect profiles. Practicing healthier drug use habits will definitely aid in lessening or stopping psychosis. These include hydration, maintaining blood pressure, and sleeping and eating well.

If you limit your usage which tends to be improbable, its highly possible you may not suffer any permenant side effects. The main concern is neurotoxicity which is only shown to be prevented by NMDA antagonist memantine in mice. I would assume that gabapentin or pregabalin may be effective also since they inhibit glutamergic activity making them neuroprotective substances.

I think more than anything just the thought process that this could end in schizophrenia increases the likelihood that psychosis type symptoms are more likely to present in this way when you abuse stimulants. Of course being more cautious is going to be a good thing no matter what, the real question you need to ask, is what you went through for the high really worth potentially repeating again.

I'd wager that the answer is no. Try to desist with the stimulant use and these are things that won't even have to concern you.

Yuk 3 day binge eh? That's the longest I've gone on mdpv/apvp and it was abolute misery. Motor functions were awol. I remember trying to grasp and object for minutes. Finally once I had it, I could not let go. Trying to spit? You wish. Trying to call to a dog and my leg started convulsing instead. This was after spending 6 hours in the heat with no water behind the house, afraid to move for fear of patrolling agents and those goddam helicopters.

Seven days on methamphetamine with no sleep I am the picture of sanity and stability compared to 3 on pyrillodines.

I disagree with the two above me. I think that mdpv/apvp is so much more dopaminergic than even cocaine.

My advice, don't ever take that first hit of apvp unless you have less than 750mg or so. Never take that first hit unless you got benzos for when it's all gone. GHB would be sweeeet. Bullet to brain not recommended
