Using psychedelics after a bad trip/psychotic episode

I took 5 hits of LSD 3 weeks ago and I went insane about halfway into the trip. I went to a hospital where I was given Valium which almost immediately made me come down and I was completely normal from there on, absolutely no lasting negative effects. No HPPD, flashbacks, increased anxiety, delusions, etc. Before that I have taken LSD around 20 times and experimented with DOB, 2CB, mushrooms, DMT, MDMA, 25C-NBOMe, Salvia, Ketamine, Amanitas, and DXM all at least once each. Im pretty good at handling my mind on psychedelics, i just dont know what happened this one time. Since that, I've taken MDMA once and been smoking marijuana a few times a week as usual for me, and I've had nothing bad happen from them, just my normal drug experiences.
So I want to know, is it safe to use a psychedelic again (specifically: 2CP or DOC)? I won't be taking that large of a dose of a psychedelic ever again, I'll just stick to the normal dose ranges. I feel like I'll be fine but I want some other people's input on this.

nobody can tell you if it's okay or not, because everyone is different. but the simple fact that you worry (at least a bit) can make for negative thought loops. I personally would advise to wait longer but that's just me.

If you're going to get back on that horse, you're gonna hafta get back on it sometime. If you've been handling your other drugs well and feeling ok about them and life I don't see why you shouldn't. Though maybe score some valium to keep with you so you don't have to get it at the hospital if shit goes south. 2CP and DOC while mindfucky for phens, have nothing on acid, you should me more clear-headed on them if the dose is reasonable.

I was actually about to, and had been planning to. I knew i was fine now and in a careful situation nothing like that would happen again. But being me I started thinking, and I wanted to just make sure and be cautious. Maybe other people have similar experiences and then tripped again and the same thing happened?

I don't see why not either, that's why I'm asking other people who might know. And I do and did have Valium when that happened. I was insane though, I completely forgot about it, and the friend I had with me decided not to help me whatsoever (in fact he did the opposite but that's besides the point). It bothers me that I could've avoided all of that just by going into my backpack and taking the same drug they gave me (which is the only thing they did for me other than freaking me out in my psychotic state). But you're right that acid is of the least clearheaded trips, especially in that kind of dose.

I actually had a rough trip last august...maybe hearing about my experience will give you some information that will help you with your own experience.

I had been getting into some heavy (for me) 4-aco-dmt trips. 45 mg or so. I really questioned dosing so high the first time but i enjoyed it so much that i kept up this high dosing regimen for (i dont know exactly) 10 or so trips until i had a very bizarre experience: i forgot everything about myself and the world except for some very basic things like my name and the fact i had taken some sort of drug that caused this amnesic state. I recovered from this experience fine but the next time i tripped the exact same thing happened! The second time i was prepared and, like you i came out of this unfortunate state after taking a benzo.

I haven't been able to enjoy trips on 4-aco-dmt since then. I've had two low doses and been fine but have been very anxious throughout, not surprisingly. More recently, 5-meo-mipt @ 6 mg proved to be a nice experience.

So: i think you are okay to try acid again at a low dose. And probably fine to take a phen at a normal dose. But you may wish to wait a few months before having anything to be on the safe side.

Hmm, benzo's are okay if someone is just very agitated but it will not really stop a trip in its tracks. Get an anti-psychotic for that, preferably a typical one.

Other than that, realize that LSD blotters come in all sorts of dosages so unless you get them tested you cannot trust that one hit is one "normal" dose. On top of that, you will probably want to feel underwhelmed first before going any further, to reacquaint yourself with the effects. So start with something ridiculously low and slowly work your way up with other hits from that same batch. Of course powders also need to be verified, but other than that a similar story, you know the drill.

I've lost my shit exactly once on LSD and that was anterograde amnesia due to concurrent use of alprazolam, I was also completely disinhibited, no idea what kind of episode but it probably involved drug-induced psychosis as well from what I was told later and lasted about 3 days (!). I was never admitted to a hospital but I sure did some crazy stuff. I do find it scary that something like that happened and the way I reacted to that I guess was to just not dose so much LSD and alprazolam in such a short timespan again. From what I remember the dose of alprazolam seemed reasonable initially but it is hard to say where I actually lost the plot.

It's hard to give you good advice because we don't know exactly what happened, and you and your doctors probably don't know either. Given your previous successful history with drugs, it's likely to be a fluke, but be careful if you try again.
