Using dream seed

So my dream seed showed up in the mail the other day. I've been curious about dream inducing herbs for a while and xhosha dream herb tea was vile. So I ordered this one to try out. Problem is, I can't find much on what it's like or how to us it. I assume you grind it up and smoke it with some other herbs but am not totally sure.

Anyone have any personal experience or info on this?

I've never heard of "dream seed", nor have I heard of xhosha dream herb. I've heard of silene capensis, the African dream root, and calea zacatechichi.

Do you know what the plant's scientific name is?

Entada rheedii, commonly known as the African Dream Herb or Snuff Box Sea Bean, is a large woody liana or climber. It is often spelled as Entada rheedei, though initially published as E. rheedii. The alternate spelling is to correctly honour Hendrik Adriaan van Rheede tot Draakestein (1637-1691).[2]
Its leaves are dried and smoked to induce vivid dreams. Its seeds are found on east and southern African beaches, having grown on river and estuary banks and in swamp forest. They have thick and durable seed coats and can survive lengthy periods of immersion in seawater. These seeds are sought after as pieces of jewelry and as good-luck charms. As a result of its ready dispersal by sea, Entada rheedii is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical countries bordering the Indian Ocean.
The plant is also used as a topical ointment against jaundice.

Looks like those seeds are meant to go in the ground. :)

Sweet. I can grow one and have lots of leaves then. I bought two so I could use one on a necklace.

Where did you find that information?

That is basically the only info that exist concerning the mysterious ethnobotanical- Entada rheedii...

It is easy to grow from seed, but may take some time to sprout. The plant is a green vine with small round leaves. Give it something to climb.

I know basically nothing about the preparation, usage or effects of this plant and I don't think many people do.

If you grow and use this plant, please document it's effects.

WAIT?! Did you say GROW? Like actually GROW a plant? Don't you know that takes work and effort and you can't get high RIGHT NOW??? OMG I must be on the wrong site or something... where I am? No, no this is Bluelight... Wow... what's going on?

Working on strike three already? ;)

Welcome back Teo. You seem to be fairly knowledgeable, which is always a plus in PD-land I just hope you try to keep the dogmatic rants to yourself this time around.

I appreciate your info on entho's teo. It's a shame u don't know much about this one. I don't mind growing from seed. In fact I have a few other projects I'm waiting to start. U never answered my pm btw.

I've heard tell that the inner of the seed can be prepared and smoked, I know nout more than this apart from that they contain a diverse array of essential oils in high concentrations.

A quick Google search reveals nout new, 'cept a site on dreamherbs claiming "African Dream Herb is a great enhancer of dreams, and equal in potency and effect as the renowned dream herb Calea Zacatechichi." and that it's traditionally eaten to produce effects. Said site produced nout sources and sells the herb in question so maybe si, maybe non.

Anthropologists seem to get hung up on people smoking leaves. I've even read some reports that have to be erroneous about people smoking morning glory leaves "to induce visions". This makes the data unreliable unfortunately. Perhaps you could grow one seed and prepare the other for consumption? Just a thought.

Oh btw, it's possible that amerindian shamans do smoke morning glory leaves as part of one of their smoking blends but it would be a symbolic ingredient rather than an actual psychoactive one. They may believe that ingesting the plant in different ways can reveal different aspects of the "plant teacher" spirit.

Peace, Ethnobot

Last night I ground up one seed and proceeded to smoke about a bowl and a half of the very pleasent nutty tasting smoke over the course of a few hours. When I slept I had strange dreams but never went lucid. I don't remember much of them so recall wasn't increased. I did sleep very deeply though, as did my girlfriend. It was easy to fall asleep and we were quite relaxed before lying down for sleep. I normally have strange dreams anyway so these weren't much out of the ordinary but the possibility that the seed had something to do with it is encouraging. I will repeat this tonight as well.

repeated last night and the night before. we only smoked about a bowl out of the wooden pipe i bought just for this. the powder doesn't burn well if its packed in the bowl. instead, sitting it in there and stirring occasionally seems to do it.

each of these nights it has promoted stranger than normal dreams and deep sleep. no increased lucidity as of yet. recall is only slightly better too. this stuff works, although minimally.

^will do. The seed is reliable for me though a bit inconsistent.

For the past five nights I've smoked it. I haven't been keeping track of how much I smoke, I just puff until I'm bored. So far it had produced these effects every night:

-while lying down waitig to sleep, the realization that I'm not going to sleep tonight hits me. But i always end up sleeping.

-consistently strange dreams.

-recall seems to be improving.

-very deep sleep that is almost like taking a sedative.

-initial relaxation and clearheadedness with mild antidepressent properties.

-maybe it's all placebo?

Anyway, I'll continue working on this. I should probably be keeping a journal of this instead of just relying on memory.

If anyone has any other information on this please let me know.
