Using Benzos while on Cognitive Therapy

I have a rather high (6mg) tolerance to Flunitrazepam (it's legal where I live), but have recently found out that taking only 0.5mg in the mornings helps wonders in reducing anxiety during the day, improving self-confidence, disposition, and most importantly, my flow of thoughts and willingness to talk.

I'm completely aware of the risks of benzo dependence and tolerance, as I've been through it several times. However, I am about to start Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and I really didn't want to put this chance to waste for the third time. The last psych therapy I tried ended up consisting of me staring at the walls unable to talk, and the psych. just sitting there, for long periods of time.

I was wondering if it would be safe to take a low dosage of Flunitrazepam before each weekly visit, so I can more clearly and efficiently get my thoughts across to him. I was concerned about something I read on a different topic, where taking benzos while on CBT puts all your true emotions in the backburner and only aggravates them (not sure I understood that fully though). At the same time, I really didn't want to waste the time and money to just sit there, either not saying a word or going through hell trying to get the thoughts out of my mind.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Well I can honestly say that all through my CBT I took benzodiazepines.

I mean I was prescribed so much daily that I was never not under the effects of benzo's so yeah.

I can't see it really effecting anything.

Thanks for the reply Tripman. I will most likely pop a 0.5 flunitrazepam before my first visit, at least to get rid of the axienty.

Another thing I wanted to know is if there is a forum at bluelight for people who would like some psychological advice. Not necessarily a diagnosis or anything like that. I've been through 3 different psychologists and I've become increasingly disillusioned by them. It just seems to me that the nature of my problems isn't fixable by just talking about it for a mere 50 minutes per week. At that rate, it would take decades. This concept sounds so ridiculous that I put no faith into the treatment right from the start.

I've got a fairly sizable Diaz habit and CBT is working well for me, one of my drug workers said the only real issue is memory in that yours is likely to be worse tan id you weren't taking them but that doesn't mean the treatment wont be effective. your memory on Benzos could be better than someone else's who doesn't take them.

Best of luck I'm finding it hard going but of real benefit so far.
