I was prescribed Adderall for years, but I lost my health insurance recently. A friend has given me a bunch of 10mg generic Ritalin. It seems like no matter how I ingest it or how much or little I take, I just feel tired and crabby. Is there any way to utilize Ritalin for productivity and/or a sense of well-being? Thanks!

Well, if you usually respond to Ritalin negatively and with unwanted effects regardless of dose, I don't think it will ever be a great drug for you. Frankly, after so much experience with amphetamines, I am not surprised. Ritalin (methylphenidate) is more like cocaine in structure and effect. You can use it intranasally if you want for faster onset of action, but its effects will likely fade more quickly. You can take it orally, too, but the come-on will not be as fast, though it will last longer. If it is the comedown that bothers you, maybe taking a small dose of a benzo during or before the comedown would ease the negative comedown effects.
