US - Mother pens devastating post to late daughter's drug dealer

Did you get adicted as a result of being wounded and needing pain releif?
Was it all prescription drugs or did you use heroin?
 
Most of the people I've known who've sold dope were also users themselves

From what I understand it's a lot different in large metro areas, though (I've lived mostly in a rural area of the USA)

That's because the government deemed both legal then regulated them for sales. Even though alcohol kills more people than all illicit drugs deaths combined.
However they made herion illegal creating an unsafe black market. Most (not all) overdoses I know came from cut dope had in been regulated and properly dosed before this would not be nearly as much of a problem.
 
Legalisation has pros and cons. Good quality gear would obviously make it safer to use but heroin adiction is a bit different to something like smoking cigarettes. A heroin adiction can be expensive and legal or not lots of people will still resort to crime to pay for it. I know adicts that work in good jobs and can aford their habit but most I know are thieving bastards that will pretty much do anything for their next fix. Legal heroin won't change that.
I also don't think it would put cartels out of buisiness like people seem to think, it might affect what they charge but they wouldn't stop.
