MEXICO CITY — Latin American leaders have joined together to condemn the U.S. government for soaring drug violence in their countries, blaming the United States for the transnational cartels that have grown rich and powerful smuggling dope north and guns south.

Alongside official declarations, Latin American governments have expressed growing disgust for U.S. drug consumers — both the addict and the weekend recreational user heedless to the misery and destruction paid for their pleasures.
At a regional summit this month in Mexico, attended by the leaders of 11 Latin American and Caribbean countries, officials declared that “the authorities in consumer countries should explore all possible alternatives to eliminate exorbitant profits of criminals, including regulatory or market options.”

“Market options” is diplomatic code for decriminalization.

uhhh yeah lets blame the people that are FORCED to deal with criminals to get any kind of drug, not the retards in Washington who made the drugs illegal to begin with. We should also be blaming the people bringing the drugs into this country...

oh wait its the same people? NVM.

Yeah exactly, if they were legalised they'd be praising US drug consumers for providing massive revenue to their countries.

Though the article does seem to criticise drug policy as much as drug consumers.

“I refuse to accept that there has not been progress” in the fight against drug trafficking and consumption, said William R. Brownfield, assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
Well that's just great, you refuse to accept it. Can´t argue with that.

Latin American leaders zeroed in on what they see as glaring contradictions in U.S. law, which allows for-profit dispensaries to legally sell “medical marijuana,” while at the same time marijuana growers south of the border are hunted down by the military.

And yeah, that must be pretty damn frustrating.

The only chance we have to change this country is to just vote for Ron Paul, don't be scared of REAL CHANGE! He is for total freedom, and no I don't like him just cause he wants to end the drug war completely. But that is a big deal and if the rest of the US would just get over the stigma of drug use/users then they would realize that the gov't has no right to dictate what we put into our bodies! I thought this was the country of the 'free' ? bah! yeah right, freedom my ass.. We got more people in jail then the entire world combined and most are their for drug offences. FUCK THIS EVIL GOV'T WAR ON DRUGS! its straight up evil if you support the drug war!
