Urinating on Opiates (Heroin)

I know there's threads on this subject already but I want to know, more specifically, if there is any harm in the side effect of having difficulty urinating in opiates, especially heroin, because its much more worse with heroin than oxy for me; i just used heroin for the first few times.

I already got down a routine to pee that i learned from oxy that worked pretty easily. I'd turn on the tap water, sit down, and push hard, and get my pee out in no time. I've been trying the same with heroin, and it works after a while but its mach more difficult and i have to push much harder.

So much so that I feel loads of pressure on my bladder from pushing. It feels like it can't be good for my bladder or other intestines im exerting pressure on. Just doesnt feel right. Is there anything to be overly concerned about here?

Also, when im pushing i naturally hold my breath and feel a tremendous pressure in my head, feeling like m going to pop a blood vessel in my brain or something, and im always left with a nasty headache in my temple area of my head/ Can that be dangerous? I feel like i could actually pop something and pass out or something. Thats never happened whilst on oxy, hydrocodone or codeine at all, which are all the other opiates i have experience with.

So is any of this dangerous or anything to be concerned about? Also, anyone have any tips to make the process "flow" more easily and go quicker with little pain? Thanks for your help!

yea its pretty common. i think its something like the muscles constrict which is why you become constipated and cant piss on opiates. in all my experience ive never had any luck with pushing, i always had the easiest time if id relax my shoulders and let it flow without forcing it. yea sitting down makes it easier but i try to avoid that as i feel im losing my manhood

I can't even piss on high doses of (dihydro) codeine so I dread to think what it must be like with Heroin.

Ah man, I actually prefer the oxycodone high to the heroin high...and i thought it was a bitch to piss on oxy but its absolutely nothing compared to trying to get it out on the H. Its the next day now...i smoked the black tar about 9 hours ago...and im STILL having a bitch of a time trying to piss. Last night when I fell asleep i had to wake up about once every hour to piss and it was fucking hard everytime.

It's so common not to be able to urinate on opioids. I believe it is because they make the bladder less sensitive, so it can't detect that it is full and needs emptying, but I'd have to double check that.

Straining can have some negative health effects - increasing intra-abdominal pressure can lead to problems with haemorrhoids, prolapses and hernias, for example - but it's unlikely you'd "pop" anything unless there was already a defect there. When you strain you usually perform a Valsalva manouevre too (exhaling against a closed glottis/airway) which has a number of physiological responses - a transient dip then sharp increase in heart rate and blood pressure for example, along with normalising the pressure in your middle ear. You also raise your intra-cranial pressure a little, which could cause a headache. If you had an aneurysm then it could potentially pop, but normal blood vessels should be fine. Valsalva is commonly used by doctors and is pretty safe but in rare cases it can cause problems with blood pressure or an irregular/fast heart beat.

Overall, if you're retaining urine a lot of the time, there is a risk that you could damage your kidneys. I don't know of any cases due to opioid use - usually it's due to a physical obstruction - but it's theoretically possible at least. There's also an increased risk of urine infections. If you're worried about either of these things then see your doctor. Otherwise I'd try not to strain too much - distraction works well for me, hand in running water, sit down etc and if the worst comes to the worst getting in a warn bath/shower. It does drive me mad sometimes but I find a shower never fails me thankfully!

Thank you for the helpful replies.

I am well aware that it is common that it is hard to urinate on opiates. I am actually most worried about either popping a blood vessel in my brain from straining so much or causing kidney stones lol. But it seems like id probably be in the clear on both of those?

It is now about 12 hours later btw, and im a little drunk, and its still hard to pee. I just urinated for the first time without running water but i still need to sit down and strain, but this time i didnt need to continue straining...once the stream started i could relax...

I think straining really hard is not a good idea. Some light to medium straining should be fine, but what you described is probably not a good idea. Just take some deep breaths, run some water, and even try some meditation. And then try and relax your whole body till it just gradually flows out.. Best way to do it. And it worked for me on heroin though sometimes I'd have to push a little.

A few of the boys at work this summer, if they'd walk in the bathroom and see me at the single urinal (one toilet as well but you wouldnt want to know), would ask "did you take something today?" or to that effect. "No" or "just some Norcos " meant hang out Done in a minute. A few days all it took was seeing me earlier and its like 'guess I gotta go up front '.
One mocking intervention my team leader goes "fucking guy takes so many pills he can't pee" and something about profuse sweating leaving nothing for urine production I was just killing time.
Guess even a lot of semi- drug people dont know about this.

I've talked to people about it and get the impression men get the worst of it. A now departed lady friend on Methadone looked at me like I was crazy and the girl was an expert on all things opiate /oid. OTOH seems like women are more severely affected or bothered by constipation than guys.
