Urge to evacuate when doing stims

Hello all

I'm sorry if its a dumb question but does anybody know why one feel such an urge to evacuate after doing stims, specially when coming up? Is there a physiologic explanation for this?

Thanks!!

Haha I was referring to go the bathroom. It seems to be somehow related to anxiety as well

Haha evacuate their bowels, I presume :D

Yes, there is. Stimulants increase the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, which is your fight or flight mechanism and causes a lot of the side effects such as peripheral vasoconstriction, tachycardia and pupillary dilatation (midriasis). Another side effect is to increase bowel motility, which causes the evacuation you mention :)

Anxiety also activates the same fight or flight mechanism.

Thanks for your reply!

Would you know if taking opiates or benzodiazepines along with stims could minimize or reverse the issue?

Opiate consipation tends to be more of a slow, long term thing but anything that calms you down will decrease your sympathetic drive to some extent. It won't counteract the effects stims have on it, but it will reduce any additional overdrive.

Remember to be careful that you don't mask the downers with stims then find yourself in an overdose situation when the stims wear off.

Thanks so much for replying!

I know that one must be careful when mixing downers and uppers, but thats the only way I do it for a long time now. I get anxious very easily, so if I don't take a decent anxiolytic first, it will most certainly ruin the experience for me. I get nervous, paranoid, fear, and introspective, no matter how long i've been on a break. I used to avoid benzos, but now I just gave up, cause I truly need them in certain occasions.

Yeah - taking a sensible dose of an anxiolytic with stims is common and there is no harm in it as long as you don't go overboard. There are no inherent dangers with combining uppers and downers - the main risk is one masking the other then leading to an overdose.

Benzos can be really useful for short term or occasional use. Regular use is not really a good idea unless absolutely necessary as tolerance and addiction come into play, but sporadic use for when you really need an anxiolytic is definitely useful :)

I know that when I used to smoke crack that I would always make sure that I had some heroin with me as well.
I found that as soon as I had smoked a pipe or two of crack that I would have an immediate need to empty my bowels but if I then smoked a few lines of heroin it would settle my stomach down and I no longer needed to go to the toilet.
