I've been taking lots of magnesium supplements ever since quitting benzos and opiates two years ago. I use magnesium instead of the benzos basically + to help with my central sensitization syndrome/allodynia. So during two years I've worked up some kind of tolerance. I now take 2250-5000mg magnesium glycinate daily and think it helps with my cramps/neuropathic pain and sleeping problems. Especially if combined with other NMDA antagonists.

Anyway, most info on the internet (and the bottle of magnesium) says 450mg daily is the upper tolerable limit. However, I feel perfectly fine and all my electrolytes are normal. I just wonder if I can keep taking these amounts of magnesium without worrying about getting side effects in the future such as electrolyte disturbance.

I'm not sure... But magnesium especially in supps isn't well absorbed internally... from what I have read. Maybe that form is better absorbed though.

Have you ever tried magnesium oil?

Actually I think I got it, it's not some tolerance really I just switched magnesium forms along the way and 5000mg of glycinate may sound much but actually only yields 1000mg elemental magnesium so the dose shouldn't really be a problem I think.

Oh and to the guy who was mocking me who got his posts deleted before I could reply: Lol I am not getting high on magnesium man, I use it mainly to help sleep. Some tolerance actually builds towards the tiredness it produces, try taking magnesium supplements for a few days yourself if you do not believe me, at first you will get very tired by taking them but that soon disappears.
