Yesterday I had 400mg of Tramadol SR (spaced out over the course of the day).
In the evening, I had 10mg diazepam and an antibiotic - trimethoprim 300mg.
Then I smoked a pipe and my heartbeat went through the roof.
It wasn't weed paranoia, because I got my partner to feel my heartbeat and he said it was beating really fast (he told me this today, so as not to freak me out even more than I was already).
I thought I was dying and my vision began to blur.

Can anybody explain these physical effects?
I had never experienced anything like it and I had similar combos in the past.
I have a decent Tramadol tolerance (I take it for sciatic pain).
The only thing different this time was the antibiotics.

Sometimes, even to seasoned users, Cannabis can cause a rapid increase in heartbeat and blood pressure that can be quite surprising. It happened to me the other night, out of the blue. After a hit of resin, none the less.

I'm thinking it was simply a reaction to the Cannabis.

plus tramadol is an NRI so the ultram and the marijauna caused your side effects

Just wanted to reinforce what has been said that tachycardia (fast heartbeat) from mixing serotonergics and marijuana is a documented side-effect hence why they're contraindicated:

University of Washington - ADAI said:
  • Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) - Sertraline (Zoloft), Paroxetine (Aropax), Citalopram (Cipramil), Fluoxetine (Prozac), Fluvoxamin (Luvox);
  • Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) – Moclobemide (Aurorix), Phenelzine (Nardil);
  • Newer antidepressants – Mirtazapine (Avanza), Venlafaxine (Efexor) and Reboxetine (Edronax).

Very little research has been conducted on the effects of using marijuana while taking prescribed antidepressant medication. The side-effects of antidepressants can be similar to those produced by marijuana use however, and these include the following:

  • Abnormally fast heartbeat (tachycardia);
  • Dizziness;
  • Anxiety;
  • Panic;
  • Drowsiness;
  • Nausea;
  • Confusion.
