When you looked at me, it was like the first man who ever looked at me.
I was jolted by the recognition of that perception;
A newness and a gladness rang through me as I watched you watching me,
And felt the deeper currents of my emotions begin to swell.
Late into the deep long night you noticed
My freckles, and your eyes studied my face
While I, unaware, answered your questions.
Recklessly I made love to you, in my ignorance I
Poured my self forth generously.
I have come home to my second innocence,
And not knowing -- perhaps not caring --
You have taken it away from me again.
How is it that you who were meant to be so insignificant
Have become so essential?
You are one man in a chain of many;
What makes you so outstanding?
I have but one memory of you, and
Yet it burns in my soul like a torch in a darkened hallway.

You might characterize it as having been "in [your] ignorance," but in my book, that's the only way to live.
Ya' can't win if ya' don't play.
