Hello, I am new to the forum and I am unsure if this is the correct thread to post this story. Please let me know if I need to move it. If you read this in its entirety, thank you. I could really use some input so that I don't think I'm completely crazy

I wrote this about 20 minutes after it occurred.

I have just experienced something very strange that has made me question a few things -- mainly reality. While I was beginning to fall asleep just like any other night, I began having strong visuals and mind confusion. For the record I have been using cannabis for over 2 years and have tried psilocybin mushrooms once (about a week ago as of 10/12 and I loved it). That's it. I do have an extreme interest in substances such as LSD and DMT, but have yet to experiment. Since this experience just happened (Monday, October 12), the last time I used cannabis was yesterday (Sunday, October 11). I have never tripped hard on anything like LSD or DMT, but it seems as if I can only describe what happened as a trip of the sorts. I was on my phone lying in bed, and began to feel myself drifting off into sleep. I sat my phone down and turned over to get some rest. It didn't seem long before things started to unravel. I can't remember exactly how long it was before I "fell asleep", kind of like I was on something, I had the feeling of not being sober. The first thing I remember was seeing myself relive childhood memories but everything was completely different. It was like I traveled back in time but to the wrong dimension. I was traveling to different places that at first seemed random and sort of frightening. One thing I remember that scared me was all of the sudden I was riding down the street on a bike and I saw about 10 others riding their own bikes backwards and going in the same direction as me. Perhaps the scariest thing though, was that this entire time I felt completely awake, I didn't feel like I was in any sort of dream state. I remember while going between certain scenarios I was telling myself, "I'm just dreaming, I'll wake up now" and then I'd be in an entirely new situation and realize I'm still "dreaming". The next thing that happened is the most confusing thing and is hard for me to explain so I will try my best. All of a sudden, I realized I was looking up into a beautiful night sky, it seemed so real (everything did) and I kept forgetting that I had just been transported to that moment in time and space. As I was looking in the sky I began to spin extremely fast and got very dizzy, at the same time I was hearing people talk around me that sounded so real I thought I was being watched or pranked without my willingness. Here is the most interesting part. I now see myself in kind of a half 1st person-half 3rd person view, laying in a bed in the exact same position that I fell asleep in. I was in some sort of poorly lit, almost completely dark, room in a bed. For some odd reason I convinced myself that it was all over and that I was awake and back to normal, at the time I didn't realize that everything around me was different than it was before. I continued to hear people talking, what seemed to be about me but I couldn't really understand what they were saying. Then, I just stared at my hands for what seemed like an hour (even though time was pretty much irrelevant) This entire time that I was looking at my hands there were flashing colored lights that I could see on the wall out-of-focus behind my hands, I kept thinking that I was in a dream and then I would feel my brain spin 360° and I would be completely normal like that was my actual reality. This cycle repeated a few times before I stopped hearing people talking and all I could see was blackness (still able to think, just not able to go anywhere mentally or physically). Soon after I opened my eyes for what seemed to be the 1000th time. I then realized that I was truly back on Earth. I was back to where I am supposed to be. It may be because of all the movies I watch, but to me I feel like I have traveled with my soul to another dimension or something of the like. I have always believed that I have seen signs from a greater being trying to show me what's really out there, and for some reason I think that this was a big step in the path of my soul. I know this story was extremely long but I was just wondering if anybody else has ever had an experience similar to this one, (tripping while falling asleep, completely sober). Thank you in advance, for your time.

UPDATE:
So it's been bout 2 hours since this happened and in the meantime I attempted to go back to sleep. As a result I have gone through one of the most terrifying moments of my life. I seemed to fall asleep completely normal. Until, I was suddenly "awoken" by something/one flicking my left year back and forth repetitively (I was laying on my right side). I was completely frozen and could not move the entire time. I then was able to see with my eyes closed. I could see the bed I was laying on in front of me and the rest of my room. But everything seemed a little off and there was a glowing light right in front of my face, not too dim and not too bright. I felt this energy building up in my body almost like I was shivering from the cold but much more extreme. I could also hear an intense ringing in my ears at the same time. Everything stopped for a few seconds. I was then thrown into the same situation and then some. I was shaking from the inside out almost like I was being electrocuted. I could now, strangely, hear the sound of loud engines revving over and over. This all built up to one moment of absolute terror. The ringing grew unbearably loud and my apparently closed eyes were forced open almost as if to show me something. And I saw something. I can only describe it as some type of being with only a head and a wide body. I have been extremely frightened for the past 20 min but have just worked up enough courage to type this. If anybody knows what is happening please let me know so that I can calm down and be at peace.

UPDATE:
I was finally able to get some normal sleep. I don't know why or what happened to me, but I'm terrified now because of it. If anything like this has ever happened to you, please let me know. I can't be the only one.

What you are describing is an out-of-body experience, which mechanistically overlaps with dream states. Basically, your body is trying to make you fall asleep and enter that realm, but your mind is refusing to go with it. This is what causes you to experience these bizarre hallucinations and feelings of being frozen while you transition from one realm to the next, which you actually "experience" every single night, but your consciousness is normally turned off for it. Likewise, even once you get to the dream your perception is still normally greatly diminished, but in this case you've managed to keep yourself alert and functioning for it. This is part of why it seems so vivid as your mind is actively adding more detail to the experience, and it's also part of why it seems trippy because you are more aware of how strange it is than you normally would be in a dream.

There is nothing to fear in this. It is possible for anyone to do without ever having taken drugs. In your case I highly suspect that your recent experience with mushrooms made your mind more conscious of shifting perceptual states, whereas the fact that you smoke cannabis regularly but hadn't for a day probably caused a two-pronged effect: decreased ability for your mind to fall asleep, and REM rebound which makes dream states easier to enter. I actually quit smoking for a day or two sometimes when I want to do this purposefully because it's so effective.
