Like many people I find falling asleep to be very difficult at times, & when I'm out of prescription meds I always pick up some CVS brand 50mg Dipehnhydramine pills and some 25mg doxylamine succiante unisom tabs. I have grown quiet a tolerance to both these, I stopped using dipehnhydramine and usually take around 200-250mg doxylamine just to put myself to rest.
One night I realized I had no doxtlamine left, so on the way back from work I picked up some Nyquil LiquiCaps at the only gas station open (nearly 8 ****ing dollars...). I took the entire box without really thinking, I used to take plenty of nyquil to help with sleep before I found unisom, I just figured I had such a high tolerance & each pill only contained 6.25mg doxylamine. I believe there was 12 gels, with each gel containing 15mg Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, 325mg Acetaminophen, and 6.25mg Doxylamine Succinate.
Now I haven't taken nyquil or used DXM for recreational purposes in some time, and I was pleasantly surprised at how these Liquicaps affected me. It provided for a GREAT nights rest, I haven't slept so well in months, even when taking ambien or xanax! I wasn't expecting to get hit so hard, luckily it kicked in about 45mins - 1 hour after taking them because I was driving back from a friends house.
I do have one question though, how bad would it be to take DXM frequently as a sleep aid? There was 180mg DXM total in all the gels, so would taking a different/cheaper brand of DXM combined with some doxylamine unisom pills create a near identical effect as nyquil? I wouldn't imagine taking lower rec doses of DXM as a night cap every few days to be that bad, although it seems that it would get expensive.
