Undercover drug probe at West Warwick High School nets 8 arrests

WEST WARWICK — The students at West Warwick High School didn’t have a clue; neither did the teachers.

A mole was in their midst.

A new student enrolled in January, transferring from Connecticut, using a phony name and transcript. And she worked hard, took classes, did homework and, most importantly, bought drugs.

A West Warwick Police officer pulled off a five-month undercover investigation. On Thursday, eight people were arrested: seven current students and one recently withdrawn: four of them adults, four of them juveniles.

The undercover officer, Silva said, made a dozen marijuana purchases and identified dealers. The impetus came at the end of the last school year, Silva said. School officials and police officials met to discuss issues, and up came the matter of drugs.

“This says drugs will not be tolerated in West Warwick,” said Town Manager James H. Thomas.

The drugs were restricted to marijuana, which relieved Sheehan, but marijuana’s availability in school, he said, “is still not a good sign.”

WOW what the fuck setting up a five month undercover investigation just to try and get weed out of HIGH SCHOOL (where i am sure alot of those same cops smoked weed).

i was expecting weed to be a side mention to all the ecstacy, coke, shrooms, and ketamine they found considering this is high school but instead THE WHOLE THING WAS OVER 3 OUNCES of pot. They just made it impossible for 4 people to get decents jobs with there criminal records just so that they could "try to send a message of zero tolerence". Which we learned in the 50s doesnt work on kids so this case, just like everyother small time dealer case, was a waste of employee resources, time, and of course, tax-payer dollars.

fuck it would be less healthy for me to eat a McDonalds quarter ponder than to smoke those three ounces (which is an ounce under a quarter pound) (it certainly coulodnt be worse)

hah, i wonder how much this whole operation cost the poor tax payers....im sure it was more than the paltry amount of weed they seized. Shouldnt an operation like that net MORE than it cost to fund?

My friends mom said she knew of an undercover at her school when she was in high school. At the end of the year, this dude apparently got a bunch of people busted.

such a joke busting HS kids... if your going to do it, try a college..... you will get chemists and higher ups, not some kids selling bud to support their own habit... what a waste of my tax dollars
