Good morning all,
I have been having uncontrollable hand movements and I believe it’s from Lithium. I’ve read somewhere that this is common and goes away after some time. The problem is that I have to start a new job tomorrow and most of the time I will just be training but sometimes I will have to operate a forklift. Obviously, I don’t want to have my hands jerk while operating a forklift and have an accident or at worst kill someone.
And driving my car if my hands jerk and I go into oncoming traffic.
I have been on lithium 900 mg for two weeks and three weeks prior I was on 600mg a day. This just started happening this morning and I dropped my glass coffee cup after filling it because my hands spasmed.
The problem is lithium I find very helpful at treatment of bipolar disorder. I don’t want to go backwards but I need to work. And this is making me think about going off meds and trying to manage it with lifestyle change with my therapist. And then again she is requiring me to take meds under a psychiatrist care.
Another important note is I have been tapering off seroquel on my own because I fired my psychiatrist after he told me that I can’t continue taking ky gabapentin from another doctor because I abused stimulants. Like wtf…gabapentin is just not like that. It’s not addictive psychologically imo.
I never told him anything about abusing any gabaergics and he has to go. I took my prescribed 600mg of gabapentin this morning and now my hands don’t jerk but how long will this help? I also skipped my morning lithium (300mg) but will take my 600mg nightly dose. I’m just doing this until I talk to a doctor.
I also have but don’t take clonidine .1 mg and read it can help with my side effects but gabapentin seems to be doing the job.
Okay—-knowing all this, what would your suggestion be?
