Uncoiling the Spiral: Maths and Hallucinations

I always thought that hallucinations had to be some sort of complex mathematics of the brain. This is cool stuff.

There is one thing that does not quite makes sense in the author's conjecture (the Bressloff's 2001 paper). If that is a general chemical balancing pattern, why does this pattern is only noticeable in the visual cortex? Why such effects do not occur in other regions of the brain, controlling movement, speech, or arousing other feelings like tact.

if a chemical like DMT can pass the BBB I admit it could pass anywhere and not make it only available in the V1 area.

i know i get weird repeating thoughts, not terribly dissimilar from the weird repeating patterns i suppose, and some weird repeating movements (i.e. the "acid cringe"). I liked this article as well, think I linked to it in a thread on theories about hallucinations a few weeks ago. I also suspect that some heuristics used in vision may go all algorithm on you and contribute to the repeating patterns, that's pretty baseless speculation though
