UN: drug gangs controlling parts of British cities
Parts of British cities are becoming no-go areas where drugs gangs are effectively in control, a United Nations drugs chief said today.

Professor Hamid Ghodse, president of the UN's International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), said there was ''a vicious cycle of social exclusion and drugs problems and fractured communities'' in cities such as Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.

The development of ''no-go areas'' was being fuelled by threats such as social inequality, migration and celebrities normalising drug abuse, he warned.

Helping marginalised communities with drugs problems ''must be a priority'', he said. ''We are looking at social cohesion, the social disintegration and illegal drugs.

'In many societies around the world, whether developed or developing, there are communities within the societies which develop which become no-go areas.

''Drug traffickers, organised crime, drug users, they take over. They will get the sort of governance of those areas.

''Examples are in Brazil, Mexico, in the United States, in the UK, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, and therefore it is no good to have only law enforcement, which always shows it does not succeed.''

To summarise: Politician blames drugs for the failures of other politicians.

Wankers. The whole lot of them.

As if they can't keep control of somewhere as small as the UK. Our entire fucking counties smaller than a lot of american states.

It's that **** Illuminati at it again! Using prohibition, politicians and the media to get people to actually demand that their remaining liberties, freedom and privacy be taken away.

As I read elsewhere, "If anywhere in the UK is a no-go area because of drugs, it's town centres on Friday and Saturday nights"

so how is austerity working out, UK?

what odd national priorities... slash much of budget, but keep up the war on sick people.

Go vote on the poll there if you havent already, so far -

Legalise drugs such as cannabis to reduce crime 44.79% (4,169 votes)

followed by

Tougher sentences for people caught using or selling drugs 38.23% (3,558 votes)

Not that a telegraph poll means shit really, but it gets people talking I guess.

It's not a bad result considering the article is the type that pushes the "hang 'em and flog 'em" buttons. The Daily Mail version of the article didn't fare so well and totally brought out the drugs=crime=scum associations in the reader comments with the highest rated comments advocating the toughest action against foreign drug "peddlers". It's strange how the reader comments can flip from pro-legalisation to pre-genocide depending on the spin of the article.

whenever i read the news im always reading about how gangs are taking over our cities. this is such horrible propaganda, i mean fuck even in tijuana you know whos running things

I don't really see anything "newsy" in that article. It pretty much amounts to this IMO : "in some areas people use and sell drugs. We need to have programs and more law enforcement in those areas" . This is news?
