(Not about drugs but very useful to know about as a possible way of influencing the laws regarding drugs)

Campaigners who gather more than 100,000 petition signatures could have their ideas debated in Parliament, via a newly launched government website. The e-petitions site, which will ask the public for proposals, is aimed at "building confidence" in MPs' work. House of Commons leader Sir George Young said politicians could not afford to be complacent and had to give a "megaphone" to people's concerns.

But Labour has said the petitions could lead to debates on "crazy ideas".

Gov website...

And here are the petitions of direct interest...

It's lunchtime and the site seems to be bucking under the weight of the media publicity with the message "Something went wrong".

It's a bit like David Cameron....
2005: Asked specifically about downgrading ecstasy, he said: "Yes. I think that is right, looking at the science."
2011: "Something when wrong!"

Cool, I searched for drugs yesterday and there was nothing, guess it's pretty new. Does anyone know if you need to really identify yourself to sign, or is it just like avaaz?

Listening to Jeremy Vine at the moment, he says no calls for legel cannabis yet.

I suspect peeps are to afraid to bring that up.

I hate government websites, they rarely work, so not going there.

I think the previous government bought into Microsoft big-time. The result is a bunch of websites that are slow and constantly crashing with massive recurring license and maintenance fees that the taxpayer has to fork out for.

I can't even get the site to show now. Even the first page just says, "Sorry! Something went wrong!". No kidding!

Yeah that site is buggy as hell, but I eventually managed to sign 'legalise cannabis' and 'decriminalise recreational drugs'. Around 200 signatures each so far, and I think they were only created within the last day :) Also trying to sign legalise heroin, that one's not doing so well.

Seems a few people want to bring back the death penalty too 8)

Edit: ↓ Well that's good that a lot of people don't want the death penalty!

The legalise cannabis one is flying, the other one not so much...

I just managed to get them signed too. I just hit the F5 button whenever I got an error page like it said and eventually it posted the form.

Interestingly, there's a petition to "Retain the ban on capital punishment" that's got more votes than the "Restore capital punishment" petition, or any other petition.

These are currently (at time of posting) the top ranking polls...

Petition to retain the ban on Capital Punishment 2,439
Restore Capital Punishment 1,041
Keep Formula 1 Free To Air in the UK 1,037
Legalise cannabis 414
Britain wants referendum to leave EU 316
Absolute right to self-defence within ones home 316
Return of Hanging for Serious Crimes 249
Decriminalise recreational drugs 223
Formula 1 and other sports events 195

If that pattern continues then I think it will pan out quite loudly %)

Cool! Though it's a bit worrying how many people want the death penalty back...
