Drug dealers are behind bars and hauls of heroin and crack cocaine have been seized in a police crackdown in Cambridge. But “frustrated” heroin and crack cocaine addicts waiting for dealers have been causing anti-social behaviour after their supplies were cut. Insp Steve Kerridge will tell a meeting of Cambridge City Council’s east area committee tomorrow night how a resident helped police with the arrest of a heroin dealer. The pusher’s home was searched and heroin with a street value of about £2,000, and £3,000 cash, was found. The offender was remanded to prison pending sentencing. And a raid on a property in Petersfield revealed cocaine with a street value of £13,000 and a quantity of cash. Insp Kerridge said: “Two dangerous offenders, one of whom was out of prison on licence for a serious assault, are now behind bars.”
The officer also said police had received “lots of complaints” regarding drug dealing and addicts congregating across the neighbourhood “waiting for dealers to ply their trade”. Insp Kerridge said: “This has been causing plenty of anti-social behaviour when the dealers took a while to arrive, as the addicts get frustrated. One dealer who we suspected was involved in this operation was targeted at an address in the north of the city. “Approximately £1,000 was confiscated from him and £2,000 of heroin and crack cocaine was recovered. Inquiries are ongoing. “Another dealer suspected of involvement was stop-searched driving his vehicle and found to have a small quantity of heroin concealed within. “He was arrested and has been denied the use of his car for the time being. Inquiries are ongoing.”
In an effort to tackle the issues surrounding drug use in Abbey Walk, Fairsford Place and York Street, PSCO Hoi Yee Ng and the city council’s anti-social behaviour team have set up a football drop-in event during the school holidays. The free event takes place at St Mathew’s Gardens on Tuesdays between noon and 2pm for the next four weeks.

Cliff Hanger Good work by the police. Now these drugs have been taken off the streets, can these "frustrated" anti-social people be removed from our streets too?

Ilivere Well done for taking the drugs from the streets. These wasters may have to go somewhere else with a bit of luck to find their drugs instead of Cambridge. Most of them are not Cambridge people, they come here to "use" and buy. Good riddance.
