Misc [UK] Are doctors weird about Bupropion?

Been on an SSRI (Sertraline) for many years and definitely will not be stopping it...but I need something to help with depression again, and my doctor agrees.

I was gonna ask to have Burpropion added (I checked online and it IS fairly commonly prescribed alongside an SSRI, so not a weird or unreasonable ask). My reasons for that med specifically being that it works on Noradernaline (Norepinephrine) and Dopamine, so would help in a completely different way to the Sertraline.

Just wanna know if it's another med doctors are weird about or suspicious if you ask for it or reluctant to prescribe it? Ya know, the way they are about SO MANY MEDS.

Oh for fucks sake. Some Googling tells me it's RARELY prescribed for depression here and requires a specialist. Why are almost all meds SO fucking hard to get in the UK?

I cant see why it would be hard to get there. It's one of the first anti d's they script here cause its considered a milder one

No idea. But they seem stingy with pretty much anything. you would not believe the difficulty I had just getting prescribed Gabapentin. 4 fucking years to convince a doctor and this is WITH evidence of the nerve damage, too.

Bupropion seems to be only approved as a smoking-cessation aide. I could lie and say I want it to stop smoking, but obviously that would probably mean only getting scripted it for a few weeks.

Here they basically throw gabapentin at you. Same thing as lyrica when it first came out

From what you've shared on site, you've got a few meds already and a few things going on medically. That's probably gonna make your GP nervous about adding something that isn't that common and they're more likely to refer you to specialist. No harm in asking though, even if it just gets you a referral.
