Damn. This song was my first U2 song. I didn't even know who it was the first time I heard it.
I was 8 years old. (21 now) My family was travelling across Canada, from Alberta to Northern Ontario as we did each summer. (For you Americans, that's the equivalent of Montana to Northern Minnesota) It was my little family of 4 in a Honda Civic hatchback...convenient to flip down the seat and sleep in the backseat while my mom and dad talked across the miles.
Just outside of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (the equivalent of Bismarck, North Dakota) there was this huge waterpark named Penguin Park. The previous year, my brother and I we saw it from the highway and BEGGED my dad to stop. We didn't fit it in that year, but the next we did.
It was my last waterslide run of the day. I was standing on the top of the tower, looking around across the Saskatchewanian plains, nothing to be seen for miles but golden wheat and a hazy blue sky. It was hot. You could smell dust in the wind. Then, over the loudspeakers set up for the lifeguards enjoyment, came the running guitarline that opens "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"
What a great moment.
