Tyrosine after a 2-FMA(or any stimulant that depletes dopamine) binge:

Why don't more people do this? 1000mg of L-Tyrosine+B6 on a totally empty stomach the day after being up all weekend on 2-FMA. Woke up feeling the usual "I hate the stupid pointless world and all of the stupid pointless people in it" mood in addition to the usual fatigue/less energy than a 95 year old, and I'd picked up the bottle of L-Tyrosine yesterday to see if it actually did help a little bit when the crash came.

I feel MUCH better. Not happy or euphoric in the least, but I just feel like I can handle the day without everything being agonizing like it days after a binge like that. It's not a placebo either, too dramatic of an effect to be one. Why doesn't everybody who has to quit, runs out, or takes a break from stimulants go down to the nearest health supplement store and buy these? Is this effect only temporary? (Temporary even if you still continue to take it.)

I used and continue to use l-tyrosine for recovery after using stimulants. I think its a great supplement for anybody who uses stimulants to have around for helping soften that crash...

It gives me heart palpitations and erratic heartbeat unfortunately, so I guess tyrosine (like most things) effects different people differently.

ETA: As for why more people don't know about it, I think a lot of people don't know much about supplements and many don't take them seriously simply because they are sold as supplements and not as drugs. I've had a lot of people scoff at my supplement recommendations, declaring any effects can only be placebo (without even trying them or doing research), or just not bother trying them in favour of a well-known prescription drug.

^i have the same issue. My old friends who I used to tweak with would always laugh/mock my supplement combo I would take during a binge. Then they wonder why they come down before I do, and they have much worse crashes. Oh well, the ignorant will always laugh at the wise.

L-Tyrosine is extremely effective to get your levels of dopamine and noradrenaline up again after stimulant use, but don't take it before the stimulant has no effects anymore! If you take it too early you risk getting an extremely elevated pulse and blood pressure. In fact Tyrosine feels like a stimulant just on its own.

But according to wikipedia, Tyrosine has shown to have no effect aside from placebo on anyone except for people with depleted dopamine levels, such as stressed out people, people suffering a loss, and of course, a stimulant abuser. Apparently because if your brain has a normal level of dopamine excess tyrosine is pissed and shitted out.

In this case you shouldn't trust Wikipedia too much. Try taking 1 gram of L-Tyrosine + B6 vitamin on an empty stomach and you'll see what I mean.

The trial they sourced didn't mention B6, so I suppose that's why, haha.

L-Tyrosine doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier easily and all other amino acids competes with it. The only way to get the full benefit from L-Tyrosine is to take it 2-3 hours after a meal (or even better, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach) and not eat for an hour after taking it. B6 vitamin helps transporting it to the brain. Also vitamin C helps it reaching the brain.

But don't overdo it though. L-Tyrosine has nasty side effects if used in excession. Just take the amount you need to feel OK.

^Where did you read that l-tyrosine doesn't cross the blood brain barrier easily? I was just reading this review that said that competition with other amino acids actually improves the function. They also concluded:

Administering serotonin or dopamine amino acid precursors should never involve the administration of only one amino acid. Improperly balanced amino acid precursors are associated with decreased efficacy, increased side effects and depletion of the non-dominant system [in the case of l-tyrosine that would be serotonin, as tyrosine is a dopamine precursor - serotonin precursors would be l-tryptophan and 5-HTP].[Source]

It's not that Tyrosine doesn't cross the BBB easily, it's just that the enzyme that metabolizes it in to L-dopa is rate limiting.
