As for the "spiritual" component, I think this is a misguided question. Experiences like this are certainly spiritual in that they match the standard definition of spirituality, but if you think about what the word means, you'll understand that there's nothing special about it or the class of experiences that it's typically associated with.
I don't get your point. The experiences match with many spiritual views such as all things being connected and ideas about cosmic conciousness. As I said I don't necessarily agree, but none the less I don't follow why an understanding of the word spiritual implies that the experiences which go with it are not special. Spiritual literal is about the spirit or soul - this relates directly into modern philosophy of mind and the debate about where the mind can be described physically. An experience where you stop being just you might suggest that mental states are not just tied to one physical brain.
