Let me start by saying that I have always been a great tea lover and am very experienced with all kinds of tea - Typhoo, Earl Grey, Tetleys, PG Tips etc. I have always been able to drink large amounts of tea without feeling any adverse effects - this could be because I have developed a high tolerance to tea. I'm male and weigh 81kg.
This report concerns the events that took place on Sunday 4 September 2005.
9:30am I fill my kettle with water and switch it on.
9:35am The water in my kettle has boiled and it has switched off. I pour a small amount of the hot water into my teapot to "warm the pot".
9:37am I pour out the hot water and spoon 3 level teaspoons of Twinings Traditional Afternoon Loose Leaf Tea into my teapot.
9:38am I switch my kettle on again to reboil the water.
9:40am The water in my kettle has boiled and it has switched off. I pour about 3 cups volume of water into my teapot and put the lid on.
9:41am I fetch the milk from the fridge and pour some into my cup.
9:42am I pour some tea into my cup, stir it with a spoon and sit down.
At this point my mind is completely calm and I do not feel nervous. My mindset is pretty good and I have some classical music playing to maintain a good setting.
9:43-9:45am I drink the cup of tea. It's pretty hot but it tastes nice.
9:50am I can feel some mild stimulatory effects but nothing I can't handle.
10:00am The mild stimulatory effects are still there. There is no nausea and I am not experiencing any OEV or CEV. My coordination seems unimpaired. There are no auditory hallucinations.
10:05am First alert - I feel like I need to urinate.
10:10am The feeling of needing to urinate is very strong now. I go to the toilet and have a wee.
10:45am I'm back in the toilet having another wee.
11:00am The effects are fading.
11:30am The effects are gone.
Overall I think this experience was identical to every other time I have drunk a cup of tea. The diuretic effects of the drug seem to be the most prominent, causing increased urine production for one or two hours after ingestion. The experience could have been enhanced with the addition of a spoonful of sugar dissolved in the tea, or by the ingestion of a chocolate biscuit.
The next time I plan to use a larger cup and slightly less milk.
