Oh my fuck, I caught this roughly a year ago when it first hit jap airwaves, but now it's hitting home. From the creator of Cowboy Bebop comes a feudal japanese hip-hop tale of the like which has never been touched on this or that side of either hemisphere. Poll please!

I missed the first showing, but finally caught it on DVR.

Excellent art and sound/music. Story is a little jumbled, but I'm only on episode 2 so I'm not going to judge it untiL i've seen it in Subtitles. :D

Looking forward to more. Very slick, a lot of style. I'm glad to see something good replacing Ghost in the Shell now that it's finished it's run.

I also missed the first episode on adult swim, so if anyone has a torrent link... well you know what to do ;) Any good ? I really hope it stands up with watanabes earlier work, CB blew my mind.l

The subtitle version is far superior to what I saw on Adult Swim, I must say. That being said, this anime kicks fucking ass and the soundtrack is just as pimp as Cowboy Bebop.

Does anyone here know where I can find a soundtrack or a track listing for CB btw? Or S.C., for that matter.

Jin - Samurai Champloo

Ok, after watching the first episode I was stright hooked like a 12foot marlin in mexico. I immediatly went out and obtained the entire series with english subtitles and sat down to watch... It just got better and better...

The characters are rich and diverse, where you really get to understand them similar to how you (at least I did) felt attached to the characters in bebop. I never thought something could come along and rival bebop, but wantanabe (sp?) has done it once again. I'm not going to spoil it for you by mentioning any of the plot AT ALL. Though I believe it's quite safe to say that while it's both INTENSE and has EXTREMELY GRAPHIC VIOLENCE it has welcomed splotches of comedy mixed in as well to lighten the mood from 'stright murder'. The music once again, is amazing. They chose to use a hiphop flavor which meshes quite well with both the swordplay and how the scenes are 'cut' togather. You will understand what I mean once you see the GLORY.

In closing, Samurai Champloo ROCKS! - 10 out of 10. Go find it now, you will thank yourself later. ESPECIALLY if you were a bigtime bebop fan.

By the way, be sure to check out www.samuraichamploo.com for a taste of what is to come. Desktop pictures, character biographies, it's all there at your fingertips displayed on a beautiful flash design. Who could ask for more ?

This show is fucking brilliant, hip hop and samurais, why hadn`t anyone thought of that combo earlier.

Not that I condone it, but it should be fairly easy to download- that`s how a friend brought it to my attention.

I've only seen the first epsoide, and while the artistic design of the show is impressive, i couldn't help but be bothered by the lack of charcter and story development. Can someone who's been keeping up with the series give me some indication about what direction the rest of the season has taken?

^^i'd say if you've seen the first episode, then you've probably watched some of the best this show has to offer...

so what follows: (obviously) jin and mugen accompany fuu on a hike (edo, okinawa islands etc.) in search of the sunflower samurai (fu's dad); with such encounters: graffiti artists, j-rappers 8o, your usual ukio-e artist scam, a food eating contest (in which you see fuu blow up like a rubber doll to guargantuan proportions (a la rubber luffy/one piece). not to forget the classic burning down of a field of renegade monks' mj to get everyone in the 500-mile radius nice'n happy, hippy-style...

all of this is in the middle of the late 17-early 18-th century edo-era japan. the part about mugen's old days of piracy, and native roots deserves special mention (i think it's a two-episode story)...

anyway, the show is plenty comedy and a healthy bit of tragedy.
to sum up a short review: artwork spectacular, animation phenomenal (what you'd expect from shinichiro watanabe) and awesome soundtrack to top it off.

unfortunately: story telling lacks pacing; (fuu gets captured once too many 8) ), the characters get a touch stale; although there is enough insight into their background to keep you tied to your monitor...

do not get me wrong, this is fantastic work; its style had me in cartwheels around my living room... as far as substance... m-e-h... it's no cowboy bebop, but i would not call it a waste of time, either...

series hits a low point around episode 15, but they take a break and come back even better. It's only a shame that the distinctive rough/fat line style and murky colours weren't kept all the way through the series. animation is still on par with most OAV's though.

Just don't watch the dub if you value authenticity. The japanese voice actor playing mugen is much better than this guy reprising his "spike" role.. geeez :/
