Just watched 10 minutes ago on CBS. I have a fascination towards the "Manson Murders" in general which is why I tuned in, and I guess the movie is what I expected for a made for TV movie.

Any other Manson movies/documentaries you've seen that are worth viewing?

aw, crap, I wanted to see this.

I saw an interview with Vincent Bugliosi so I was really interested, and clips, etc.

How was it?

I don't have any real fascination toward the murders - just amazement at the psychos who think he is someone to be idolized.

There's a new flick out called CHARLIE'S FAMILY that's supposed to be excellent... The trailer has me really wanting to catch that flick ASAP.

There were also quite a few Manson Family films made in the 70's... I think one was called THE MANSON MASSACRE... There were other's but the titles elude me at this moment.

The movie, "Helter Skelter" on CBS, was actually not half bad. It was on cable TV, so you can imagine its not as graphic and gruesome as you'd like it to be when handling this type of content, but still a little bloody.

It was ran from 8 PM to 11 PM, so it was 3 hours long and it did a nice job summarizing and giving perspectives on the case. Started out on the ranch and making a representation of the relationship Charlie had with Tex Watson, Sadie McGlutz and LaBianca and such and followed the events of Charlie and the Beach Boys deal. It progressed onto why Charlie couldnt get a record deal and then at the end of the first hour it explains how and why Charlie sent Tex and the other girls to kill Sharon Tate and Co.

Only the last hour did it dive into the trial, and had a very good scene where Charlie tried to represent him self and made ridiculous motions towards the court and the judge said ...

"You're out of order!" To which Charlie replied ...

"This courts out of order!!!!" And went on ranting how his rights were being violated.

Over all, I think it could've been done better, but I didnt expect much from a made for TV movie, and for a TV movie it did just fine.

And that is my review for you, oh my sweet randycaver.

charles manson and i have something in common so i'm always interested in his story. :)

i have not had a chance to see this yet but i'm enjoying the discussion.

how was jeremy davies' performance?

alasdair

jeremy davies (great actor) as charles manson used a lot of the mannerisms and body language he employed for his character in solaris (great movie) but also did a great deranged voice. i didn't watch the whole movie (sopranos was on), but it looked like the network or filmmakers modified the legendary swastika tatoo on the character's forehead. anyone notice this?

I was disappointed by this new Helter Skelter. I think Steve Railsback was a better Charlie Manson in the 1980's made-for-tv Helter Skelter.
