TV: Dateline "To catch a predator"

oh vibby, you're definitely right, and i could see the embarrassment and what not with the family, but yeah there comes a time where somethings are inexcusable, and though it would suck TERRIBLY for the family to be associated with such a title (pedophile, child pornographer, etc... whatever), im sure even the family agrees that that kind of stuff is FAR beyond OK.

the show itself, i actually dont mind watching it. its weird seeing the people be all happy go lucky, then seeing their faces suddenly shifting to complete uncomfortable mode. they realize they're busted (and on camera no less), but theres nothing they can do about it.

setting people up is one thing, but if those people are willing to have sex with (whether it be consenting or not) a child... thats just plain fucked up. i have no remorse for them. the family... yes... the individual... fuck no.

i dont support people trying to solicit sex from 12 year olds. fuck pedophiles.

Fucking A right. They're lucky it isn't me waiting for them, I wouldn't have a camera, I'd have a fucking bat.

exactly!

i dont mean to get this thread going in a negative direction though... but seriously... i think this show (whether or not you like it) serves a good purpose.

Yeah, sorry...just thinking about those creatures makes my blood boil.

Perhaps, the show will deter somebody, and they'll find some outlet for their tastes that doesn't involve exploiting children.

dont be sorry, you're DEFINITELY not the only person with the same train of thought. i just wanted to assure that i didnt intend to derail this thread by any means. i agree with the general idea of the show... i cant honestly feel bad for any of the people on it who are 'set up,' because lets face it... what they're doing is just not right.

For the show that took place outside of Dallas, 24 arrests were made, but not one person was ultimately prosecuted because of shoddy police work. 23 cases were dropped and one dude killed himself.

a reality tv show concerned about tv ratings is the last thing a prosector wants in a criminal investigation/case.

but the fact remains the same... the show serves a good purpose. unfortunately things are going to happen regardless of the repercussions. im sure this show DOES have its faults (in law), but even lawyers fault on occasion. the overall purpose of this show is VERY meaningful just as the intent to prosecute child pornographers and pedophiles is all the same. both television exposure and law practice are going to have their mistakes that unfortunately result in TERRIBLE TERRIBLE consequences, but both have good intentions and most likely do more to help than to hurt.

Its a good show and serves a good purpose but its getting boring to me. How many times can they show the same old situation and expect it to stay fresh? I think they need to spice it up somehow and add some new moves to the same ol' song and dance.

you mean like... instead of a bar stool that they sit on at times... perhaps instead a barstool that when they sit on, projects serrated daggers straight up into their stomach/intestines area? something that not only says "hey, fuck you," but "hey, we got your intestines mother fucker."?

^something like that, but no as obvious...

I mean like maybe have the dudes wife and kids in on it. Like have them waiting behind the curtain with Chris Hansen. Ya know what I be saying mane?

i do... that would definitely fuck them in the head as well. hypothetically, if i were a child loving bastard like them... and i was all into this kid and was like... gonna do him (or her) then saw their whole family behind them to back them up (or be ashamed) i would not only think twice, but i probably would not fuck them in the first place.

thats IF i were a child predator... though im not, so even the slightest possibility of that happening isnt even likely. child predators are f'n sick m'fers. even myself (with an absolutely wretched sense of humor) is unafraid of admitting that. :)

^No i am talking about having the child molestors wife or girlfriend behind the curtain with Chris Hansen.

It's tough getting convictions in those cases anyway, frequently the only witness is some traumatized kid.

A thorough "outing" might be better than prosecution. Also, the TV show is very aware that if they point the finger at the wrong guy, they'll get sued. The DA prosecutes the wrong guy, he gets nothing, and his life is often ruined anyway.
