So I recently came into possession of a bottle of Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone syrup). I also have a good supply of Hydroxyzine, which I had read is a great at potentiating opiates and alleviating the itch.
It seemed like a good combo and I've read that a lot of folks prefer hydrocodone in this form because the high lasts a long time due to the time-release nature of the medicine.
After doing some forum-diving, the dosages vary wildly for the tussionex. A lot of people are concerned about the negative effects that the chlorpheniramine would have in large doses. So I decided that I would start out slow and work my way up. I poured myself about 2 tablespoons worth and popped two 50mg tabs of hydroxyzine. This was on a full stomach, so it took it about an hour to start hitting me. A very pleasant, if a little soporific, high took over. It started in the head and then spread a tingling warmth over the rest of my body. Very nice. The euphoria didn't last that long, only about an hour or so, and it gave way to a nice and relaxed high. At this point I decided that it was time to drink some more tussionex and see how high this stuff could take me. I downed another 2 tablespoons of the stuff and was rewarded with an excellent, fuzzy high. My head was relatively clear, but if I closed my eyes I could feel myself start to drift off. Later that night I remember downing at least another tablespoon and then starting to itch so I took another hydroxyzine which helped.
The next morning I woke up and immediately regretted the whole ordeal. I had a booming headache and my throat was completely torn to hell. Worst of all, I was having serious trouble keeping my eyes open and couldn't drag myself out of bed for work. Oops! That's what sick days are for though, right? I hit snooze and awoke 6 hours later feeling like a million bucks, no headache, feeling completely recharged except for a slight rasp in the throat. Of course it was late afternoon at that point and I'd slept for about 12 hours. So my advice would be: don't do this if you can't have a full, full night's sleep.
Fast forward a few months later. I'm bored, I dig out the tussionex and decide it's time to give it another shot. This time I do a little more research on dosages and find that 80mL is a decent starting point for a good high so I measure it out and take it on an empty stomach this time. 80mL of tussionex adds up to a lot of hydrocodone, but since it's time release you get a steady stream, or so I've read. I also popped a few hydroxyzines to handle the itches.
An hour later and I'm soaring, great stuff. Loads of euphoria, great body high, very chill. I have a bad case of the itches despite the hydroxyzines, but even the itching feels good so I don't mind. Truly a great evening, and I retire late into the night barely able to keep my eyes open.
I wake up after 5 hours still high, but I can feel it giving way to a headache and nausea. I wander for a bit, enjoying the high, take a quick shower to knock back the adverse side effects and then go back to sleep. I wake up another 5 hours later and the headache has set in and I feel pretty nauseous when I move around. An short time later I finally give in to the nausea and empty the contents of my stomach into the toilet - yellow-gold liquid. That's when I realize that I haven't eaten anything in 24 hours, which could well be the source of my headache. My stomach is feeling immensely better but I'm not quite hungry. I force myself to eat some cheerios and pop an advil to stomp out the headache. And an hour later I'm feeling fine, and still enjoying the tail end of the buzz along with some residual itchiness.
So my verdict: the high lasts a long, long time. Don't wait till late at night to start this stuff or you'll sleep through some of the high. It is a fairly potent high for someone like me who has next to no opiate tolerance. Having tried oxycodone tabs, I would say that it is definitely not as potent, which is probably why people with high tolerance don't like tussionex that much.
Anyway, I highly recommend taking tussionex on an empty stomach. It made the high hit faster, stronger and last longer. The stuff tastes amazing so I wouldn't worry about mixing it with anything, as some folks seem to recommend. Expect a little nausea during the high, if you have some pot it would probably more than take care of it. Just watch out for the morning after, it can be a little rough if you don't have the time to recover. %)
