My husband has been on either hydrocodone or oxycodone for the past year and a half. He started out taking it very responsibly for chronic back pain, but over the course of the past few months, he has been taking about 12-15 of the 10/325 Oxycodone daily. He realized he had a major issue when he was being prescribed 56 weekly and was finishing those sometimes in 3 days. We talked and he agreed to wean off, he know it's an issue and it's more about the high now rather than pain relief. He gets the above mentioned 56 a week, so weaning is hard. He managed to get down to 9 a day, but he runs out by Wed/Thurs and has to take Lopramide for those two days until the next RX on Friday to help with withdrawals. What we are wondering is will he ever be able to taper if he is on 9-10 a day, comes off for 2-3 days, and gets his RX again? For instance, can he do 9 pills Fri-Wed, take his Lopramide like crazy on Wed/Thurs for WD's, then get his new RX and start with 8, do that for Fri-Thurs, take some Lopramide, then Fri get new RX and begin taking 7, and so on and so on? Does anyone know if this works, or if those 2 days off will affect weaning comfortably and sensibly? Any advice appreciated. :)
