trying to kick tramadol

i picked up this nasty habit about a year ago and have tried everything imaginable to kick it, but to no avail. obviously the worst part of it is RLS so that is what i will focus on initially. upon the first signs of a withdrawal, which usually occur 8 hours after 2x100mg doses over the course of 24 hours(small compared to some i know), the legs and arms start hurting and just a general feeling of malaise overcomes me. i have tried .5 mg mirapex, 2mg requip, 900mg gabapentin, 150mg lyrica, running a mile, a hot bath with salts, stretching, iron supplements, weed, 1600mg skelaxin, 10mg adderall, .5mg clonidine, and 3x5mg valium, basically anything short of a opiate/opioid has no effect on my legs and arms. i just want some god damn sleep. the only relief from the withdrawal witnessed is the dissipated malaise feeling from the valium, due to it being a benzo i'm sure, but my legs and arms still hurt. the only things i haven't tried are kratom, subs/methadone, and stronger benzos, which all three to my knowledge carry high dependency risks as well. i'm a student currently and i'm on the verge of just staying on tramadol until i'm done with school, as it keeps my mind right and allows me to sleep with no pain. i understand tramadol is a rather weak opioid due to its synthetic makeup, but it does the trick and honestly IMO if i'm going to abuse something it's probably my best bet in terms of eventual withdrawal time and street price. if anyone wants to shed some light on advice it would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Going to suboxone for a tramadol habit would be fucking foolish. I won't even dignify methadone.

Tram WD is worse than people think though, since it is an atypical WD from the SNRI effects. Anyway, 200mg isn't much; after a few days the RLS will subside on it's own.

Should you abuse tramadol? Sure, why not. It's you're life. That is obviously the simplest solution, but "going up the ladder" is always a concern. But I know people who have take tramadol for years, and rarely, if ever use other opioids.

One final suggestion is to use loperamide, BUT I don't really recommend that, as it can prolong you're dependence, and in the end, tramadol is probably a better addiction.

Otherwise, increase the doses of the meds you mentioned. Basically just keep yourself sedated a few days, before you know it, your body will be (mostly) back to normal. Seriously, those are low doses you mentioned. 15mg Valium? You could easily double that. But, don't get hooked on it! Or you'll be a lot worse off than you are with a ficking tramadol dependence!!!

lol that's why i'm taking low doses, the last thing i want right now is a benzo dependence. i have no ambition to climb the ladder as i witnessed my mother basically kill herself with a methadone, fentanyl, and 3x30mg perc a day habit.

Don't get me wrong, man, I'm not downplaying tram dependence, just staring the fact that the RLS will resolve itself in a matter of days(mostly, they could linger for a while.) you need to figure out whether you really want to quit tramadol at this point in time.

Like I said, you could up the doses. A combination of lyrics and low dose Valium, plus a small dose Rolf requip, simultaneously, well, I'd be shocked if you're legs were jumping.

well i'm anxious about mixing the requip with anything as every time i take it i end up vomiting. and i know i mentioned i wanted sleep, but after thinking about it just now i would rather take something and still be able to function and then eventually not have any problems going to sleep. all the meds i've listed are just going to make me drowsy and that's not exactly what i'm looking for. having said that i think i'm just going to stay with the tramadol for now, i can function normally with it and i can sleep whenever i want. thanks for your help buddy.

MODS please close thread

I'd recommend kratom if you can get it in time. It has slightly lower addiction potential than opiates and benzos. Plus if you do end up getting addicted to that instead I've heard it has lighter withdrawals than regular opiates. If you add a benzo or benadryl to kratom it should knock you out pretty quick.

Kratom is fucking expensive man, I could get a years worth of tramadol for the same as I'd pay. For a week or two of that.

Hell, I get amazing dope for the fraction of the price.(well, not really, but it lasts far longer)

I used kratom to get off a huge tramadol habit, ~25 pills a day, and stayed clean for a month......as long as I used kratom daily. After that month I did the math and it was cheaper to go back to tramadol, and that is what I did! In 2012 I was hospitalized for 2 months due to a sci. I did not receive tramadol during my stay but I did receive morphine in apparently large doses since I only remember bits and pieces for the 5 weeks I was hospitalized, last 3 wks in rehab. Point though is while on morphine I was able to get off tramadol without feeling a thing. If you can stay at the 100-200 mg a day level and not go up as I did over a 14-15 year period to 30 pill daily then you would be one of the lucky ones.

Your best bet is to use the meds you have available and then tough it out before this becomes something more than you can deal with!

How the hell did you take over a gram of tramadol a day and not have a fucking seizure?

I mean as far as I know the body doesn't build tolerance to the SNRI effects, I know tramadol's effects are mild, but damn. You might truly be a CYP2D6 ultra-rapid metabolizer. Do you get enhanced effects from codeine?

Kratom might be a little more exspensive than tram but it's still cheaper than most street pills, dose for dose. come on, heroin? that is obviously out of question in his situation. If you buy Bali in bulk it's usually cheap as hell.

Lorne, in the roughly 4-5 years I took 30 pills a day I only had one seizure. It was a gran mal and afterwards it took a couple weeks to work back to 30 a day, but I got there again. But I did make a decision to bring my dose down and had it down to 18-20 daily when I had the spinal cord stroke. Actually I was taking 40 a day for a couple or three months before realizing I was REALLY pushing things.

Just "lucky" I guess......

i appreciate the responses. since docs seem to want to hand out tramadol like candy for anything from chronic pain to depression i think i'll stick with it. i mean under my insurance i can get 180 pills for $2, so i'm not complaining. i must say tramadol is a rather interesting drug, it doesn't necessarily give me that "high" feeling with a 100mg dose, but i feel like if that's not what i'm looking for anymore and just want to keep my mind right then why take more? the ssri effects are definitely felt with even a small dose like mine, which is a plus because i've been diagnosed with general depression and i don't feel like putting in the 3 weeks of work with an actual ssri like prozac or zoloft to actually start seeing a difference. if 100mg 2x a day of tramadol is enough to keep withdrawal at bay and help my depression then i think i've made peace.

and just to throw this out there, since the talk of seizures came up, taking tramadol with an ssri like prozac WILL induce a seizure. i was on the verge of one myself a few weeks ago after taking my nightly dose of tramadol but forgot i took my prozac earlier than evening, i was laying in bed and after about 30 minutes i started to feel very jittery. i got out of bed and immediately lost my balance and then everything started to fade to black. my wife had to literally pull me into a cold shower, which kind of kept me conscious through the whole thing and the jitteriness stopped. since then i've done some research on the subject and the prozac is the only thing i can think of that could've caused that type of reaction to a simple 100mg dose of tramadol.
