Trying to avoid tolerance to benzos. What's best for daytime anxiety relief?

Hello all,

I made a couple of posts on this subject within the last few weeks, although they were rather long-winded and I didn't really get to the point. I'm sorry if this seems like a re-post to anyone.

I was hoping someone could clarify a few things to me, if possible:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Long Version:

1- I have been prescribed Flunitrazepam for about 4 months, both for sleep-aid and anxiety relief throughout the next day. However, my dosage went up from 2mg four months ago, to 6mg today, while taking it roughly every 3 days. However, it has become increasingly difficult to fall asleep on 6mg Flunitrazepam, although its anti-anxiety relief is still present the whole next day, even if I don't get any sleep at all.

2- I think the most important factor to consider would be finding a benzo that does not create tolerance as quickly as Flunitrazepam, which I could take in the mornings for anti-anxiety relief throughout the day. I am looking to replace my sleep-aid medications with more natural treatments, such as melatonin and light therapy, while still taking a low-tolerance anxiety-relief benzo in the mornings, every two to three days,

3- I was told by fellow bluelighters that my best option to avoid rapid tolerance built-up is to use a low-potency, short-acting benzodiazepine, ideally without active metabolties (which is the case with Flunitrazepam) in the mornings.

Could anyone suggest any benzos I could take in the mornings that have similar sociability/anti-anxiety properties as Flunitrazepam, but without its quick tolerance buildup? Flunitrazepam worked wonders at first, but I am rarely able to fall asleep on it without constantly increasing my dosage.

4-The reason I ask this is because I am doing therapy sessions with a psychologist two to three times a week, and I find that an anti-anxiety benzo such as Flunitrazepam really helps in speeding up the progress of the treatment, due to its anxiety-relief.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Short Version:

1- Flunitrazepam used to work wonders both as a sleep-aid as well as anti-anxiety relief the next day. However, it's becoming increasingly difficult to fall asleep off Fluni, forcing me to increase my dosage on a weekly basis.

2- I am planning to replace my sleep-aid medication from Flunitrazepam to a non-benzo such as melatonin. However, I would still like to have a short-acting benzo without active metabolties for anxiety relief in the mornings, taken roughly 2 to 3 times a week. My goal is to minimize tolerace to this benzo as much as possible.

3- I have looked at numerous benzo-equivalence charts and done a lot of of research, although I feel bluelight would offer me more sound advice on this situation. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

use atarax or vistaril for anxiety maybe in combo with clonidine (not klonopin)..
don't use benzos.. i am going through benzo w/d right now and trust me you never want to. if you've ever been through opiate w/d it feels like that except your brain feels like a scrambled egg.
Stay away from regular benzo usage. I didn't read your post as i feel like shit and it was long so im just posting this hoping i get somewhere close to an answer or opinion for you. Meditation can also be great for anxiety.

Exercise, take walks, keep busy, etc.. Your anxiety will get better and better with a solid routine.

If my anxiety starts to get the best of me, I usually head out for a walk. Usually, I'm smiling before I get out of the driveway. By the time I get back, I feel great. Get back home, blood still flowing good, sit down and smoke a bowl. Ahhhhh............ What anxiety? :)

This is really better suited for Basic Drug Discussion so I'll toss her in that general direction for you :)

I have heard that Gabapentin is helpful for some people with anxiety disorders. A friend of mine takes it for stress and she says it works well. Some SSRIs will also help keep anxiety at bay. You could also try the OTC allergy meds like benadryl, they can make you pretty sleepy.

Best thing for anxiety/sleep disorders is lots of exercise and good food. The more you can wear your body out during the day the better you will sleep during the night.

exercise

tea (not high caffeine tea, but herbal blends: my recommendation is hibiscus, peppermint, lemon balm, and chamomile)

healthy diets - cut out unnecessary stimulants

a good book to read to take your mind off the present moment
