Trying LSD For The First Time at Glastonbury

Before I start, im still a greenlighter so apologies if its been done but couldnt find this thread anywhere (except one AMAZING trip report from a guy who dropped acid at Glasto and had a great time)

THE PLAN: My plan was to get to the festival, pitch the tent, have a tab of lucy through the day, go for a wander, come back, talk shit until i start to come down then smoke weed into the night with a bit of nitrous. The reasoning behind this was; A) The allure of smoking a J as soon as we have pitched they tent might be too much to resist and i really didnt wanna drop for the first time when stoned, wanted to really appreciate and understand the effects of the drug. B) I didnt wanna drop at night and be awaking tripping til silly oclock, have no sleep and effectively burn out the next day (its a 5 day sesh so a marathon not a sprint!)

ABOUT ME:
This isnt at all me dick-sizing, just trying to offer background info that might help you guys help me :). Iv done my fair share of coke (very cheap and strong in my hometown if you know the right people, about £20 a g) and ALWAYS enjoy it, i smoke weed a fair bit and love nitrous balloons. Done my fair share of pills and molly; NEVER drink when on MD though, a typical night will be a G of mandy, no alcohol whatsoever (mixing doesnt agree with me) and then plenty of weed and nitrous when we get home, all of which i enjoy immensely. HOWEVER: Herein lies my problem, EVERY time i consume MDMA i have a 20-30 min period of intense panic and worry (during the comeup). I know its going to pass so usually i just try to chill out (whilst repeatedly telling my friends im going to go home and i feel bad haha) but luckily i have friends who are aware i go through this phase (so often they have invented a name for it; my "Bumpy Ground" haha) and they just see me through and are patient whilst i lose my marbles. After this period passes im always fine and can handle pretty much as much MD as i like (within reason) without any ill effects.

MY QUESTION: Being aware that i have this "bumpy ground", could this perhaps be a sign that i might have a predisposition or higher likelihood of a bad trip? I know i should really try this drug before hand, but i wont have access to it until the festival. I will be with a very close group of friends and we take our drug consumption seriously, always looking out for one another if someone feels sketchy (or thinks they do in my case!) Which is the only reason i feel comfortable considering tripping for the first time at glastonbury! Much appreciated guys!

Frydea, sorry i might not have been clear; i will start off with very small doses until i start to come up (standard small dabs) and then feel panic. Half a pill is enough to send it off. From say 10-6 i can do pretty much a full gram. I dont always (probably usually closer to around 0.8 maybe?) But wouldnt be surprised to finish the gram. Obviously depending on strength. I firmly believe my molly "issues" are purely psychological and due to the "rush" of the comeup: i had a period of panic attacks when younger and i think the increased heart rate triggers a similar response in my mind if that makes sense.

If you've got a good group of friends that will watch your back for real, then I say give it a shot. Many think that festival settings are not a good place to try a drug for the first time, but I think it can be a good setting given a good group of friends and careful dosing. Usually most other people are off their rockers on various uppers downers, empathogens and psychedelics, so there's no pressure to constrain your behavior, and if the fest is any good you typically feel insulated from everyday concerns and stresses. Music is also a great way to guide the trip and dancing is a good way to make the stimulating bodyload of LSD feel great.

However, the come-up is notoriously known for being kind of excruciating for some people, and it sounds like it very well may be like that for you. Mental fortitude is really the best way to get past this. Try to stay away from chaotic crowds while you're coming up and always remind yourself that the come up will pass in a mere 45 minutes or so. Make sure you can sit down if you need to during the come up period, drink lots of water, and take lots of deep breaths. The good vibes should be rolling in no time, and, when in doubt, just abide the words of the great Jerry Garcia: "If you get confused, just listen to the music play."

Wow man, really great advice! Yeah ive seen a lot of "DONT DO ACID AT FESTIVALS" but I think Glastonbury is a fairly friendly drug-infused atmosphere. The biggest plus is im blessed to have friends who will undoubtedly take care of me (as i would them) and im going to be very sure to start on a low dosage so im thinking things will be fine. I usually handle things really well once fucked up its the GETTING fucked that seems to pose a problem! Not that its anything similar, but after really high doses of MDMA and lots of weed, i did a double balloom of nitrous and thought i had invented the letter K (madness i know) so im thinking if things like that dont trip me out i should be ok?

Assuming anything when you take a new drug for the first time is unwise. In the worst case you'll end up having a 12 hour long panic attack.

If you've done anything like mushrooms or the 2C-x series or NBOMes then you have some idea how things are going to go down. If you've only ever done as much as MDMA and nitous oxide, it's probably best to at least stay low and slow with your dosing and not try to get too incredibly fucked up. It's really easy to have things go out of control with strong psychedelics if you can't handle the experience, and acid is one of the longer lasting ones.

That's not to say you can't have an absolutely great time, but I would say that the timescale of LSD intoxication leads it to be much more of a commitment than LSD or MDMA.

a typical night will be a G of mandy,

Please reevaluate this behavior. Even if you're taking 1g (or even 0.8g) of MDMA in many small doses, it's not healthy to use that much in one night. This post containing some rules of thumb on MDMA use is a good place to start.

As for my two cents on the OP, if you were part of my group I personally would not be comfortable with having you take LSD for the first time at a music festival. There are two reasons:

1. As you've heard, festivals are generally considered to be a non-ideal setting for a first-time acid trip. MANY people find that tripping in a place where crowds of people are around is uncomfortable, no matter how drug-friendly they may be. As an experienced tripper, I am not comfortable taking LSD at a festival unless the dose is LESS than 100 mcg, more like 75.

2. You've reported feeling strong anxiety on an MDMA come-up that passes once your roll gets underway. This is not terribly uncommon, and LSD is also somewhat known for come-up anxiety. HOWEVER, MDMA is known for "rescuing" users from anxiety since it has a strong and positive emotional push. An LSD experience lacks that kind of positive push, so people who experience come-up anxiety may find that it dissipates or that it does not.

That said, if you take a low dose (like 50-75 mcg) it should alleviate these concerns. SOME people report that low-dose LSD is more anxiogenic than full-dose LSD due to lack of a "breakthrough," but such things occur on a case-by-case basis.

TL;DR: If you stick to a low dose (<100 mcg) you'll probably be okay, but you and your friends should be aware that a first-time experience at a festival is more risky than a first-time experience in a calmer setting.

Again thanks for the brilliant advice. I agree anywhere around a full gram of MDMA in a single night is a lot. However, this is not every night (maybe once every 3 months) and to be quite honest its fairly common practice at the raves i attend. Im sure my MDMA isnt as pure as that much of you have been blessed with, therefore "a full g" might be misleading so apologies. In fact, my most intense MDMA experience was off of 0.5-6g of strong crystal.

In terms of the trip, i agree that perhaps my disposition and awareness of come up issues going into the trip may be a problem. What would you recommend (other than set and setting) to help eleviate any worriedness once the trip begins?

If it's just a tab you'll probably be fine, stay with your mates the whole time.

You probably want to be somewhere spacious with em where there is no one else too close for the come up.

If you start to get anxious just dance and build up good vibrations again. I wouldn't recommend smoking with it for the first time, it will add a whole other dimension to your high and can increase anxiety.

It's great that you are being responsible and seeking information, but on the other hand over thinking this shit won't do you any good. If it gets bad dance it out and laugh with your mates and it will be all good again.

In the worst case you'll end up having a 12 hour long panic attack.

tell me about it =D

Haha agreed; its all about dancing through the bad vibes! And I know what youre saying about this thinking bad shit; clearly its all about frame of mind and i think subconsciously i was thinking if i got some good advice i could go into the experience more postively. I planned to steer clear of the weed until well into my comedown but maybe ill just not smoke at all, i imagine things will probs get crazy enough for me
