Pretty bad that we went from the most fair court system in the world, to this kangaroo court. Most people won't immediately be aware of how bad this precedent is, but they'll eventually see when it's weaponized against people they support, by their political enemies that decide to use the same lawfare that is now apparently acceptable, because now that it is this way, both sides will use lawfare, but hating trump is more important to a lot of people than the actual checks and balances that kept us stabilized
I agree with the your basic sentiment here, but where was this line of thinking the entire time Trump supporters were shouting "Lock her up" for months on end?
I think the American people do not want this, in either direction. Despite how divided we are, I think the vast majority of us want our institutions to be as fair and unbiased as possible.
I'm not a fan of Trump, everyone knows that. But I cannot objectively look at this situation and conclude anything other than the whole thing was politically motivated. I don't know enough about the law to say anything conclusively on the merits of the case itself, but I don't think there's any doubt that this trial wouldn't have happened if he hadn't decided to run again.
The democrats squandered every bit of credibility with the Russian collusion , Robert Mueller, storyline. I think the democratic establishment still resents the fact they wasted all their political capital on that. They see being able to call Trump a convicted felon on television as a consolation prize for all their previous failed endeavors. I don't think that's how it should work.
But let me reiterate, the next time HRCs name is uttered at a Trump rally, there will be cries to lock her up. And that is and has always been hypocritical if you don't want to live in a country that prosecutes political opponents.
But
as usual democrats shit the bed and gave more momentum/ammunition to Trump. He was probably going to win anyway, but he almost certainly will now. People will not show up for Biden. Gen Z calls him genocide Joe. The biggest tankie leftist commentator in the world, Hasan Piker, has publicly stated he will not be voting for him. (He's a millionaire millennial but he likes to cosplay as a working class Zoomer lol).
That's a huge problem. That's supposed to be your base. Trump is shaving off minority support as well among religious/moderate blacks and Hispanics... and to top it off, the pro Israel camp doesn't like him anymore either. It is actually difficult to think of a single demographic where his support hasn't at least slightly dipped.
And yet, he refuses to step away.
That's not being a patriot, imo.
