Hi,

I'm new to this forum, so bare with me if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything while searching around. Can someone with a better understanding of Organic Chemistry than myself explain the materials needed and the process (even at a high level) to convert Tropinone to 2-CMT? The reason I ask is that I'm able to purchase Tropinone locally where I am, but nobody carries 2-CMT which is what I need for some research I'd like to conduct. I know one can synthesize 2-CMT directly from other chemicals, but i'm looking to keep my R&D costs down if Tropinone can be easily converted. It's better to purchase and store fewer products in my opinion if the results are the same. I have access to a lab with various chemicals and equipment, so throw any suggestions out there.

thanks

There's no easy way to add a carbomethoxy group to tropinone, or you'd see cocaine analogs errywhere, making 2-CMT usually comes from degradation of cocaine/ecgonine or from low yielding total synthesis

You should be able to chase down the literature yourself, it's not very hard.
