Tripping-Out Builds Character

Ever meet that uptight or that person scared to take a "risk"? Or that person who thinks that they could always choose to be sane? When I meet these people (they're everywhere) I just think "This person needs to trip the fuck out"

Now I don't think its good to "abuse" drugs all the time but a few good trips build character.

You have a few options. Read a story about my friend who built character through tripping, post in the thread about the title, or just read some stuff because your a lurker and that's cool too but contributions are always good

My good friend was once a little cocky about himself and drugs cause he smoked weed and minor things like that. So one night he wanted to trip out with me and he called me up when I was robotripping on DXM full big bottle Delsym style having a great time coming up on my trip. He's like what's up man and I tell him I'm tripping and he thinks that's awesome and is going to bring over some shrooms and ecstasy. Which we took and they were pretty bunk (didn't do anything). (There's so many bunk drugs in that little Florida town)

So my crazy ass had few more bottles of Delsym in my walk-in trip closet. I offer him a grape one and I'm tripping so I thought it would be cool if he did the whole thing (obviously we wanted an intense night) but he never even did DXM before. So he drank it and started to have a great time hallucinating, exploring the "infinite dimensions", and it was like 4 and my trip was pretty much done so I passed out and I woke up to him groaning in the bathroom where he was laying on the floor stuck in all kinds of negative ridiculous delusions (such as he was stitched to the floor) he blamed me for his "insanity" and it became obvious that tripping is a skill. So I helped him out and next morning we laughed about it and since then he has thanked me for the experience and he is now humbled. The ego was effectively attenuated.

never again mix MDMA and DXM as it has potential for serotonin syndrome occurring. you should always check for interactions between different classes of drugs before randomly throwing new ones into the combo. if you can't then is it really worth the risk?

^was about to say the same thing.

OP, I definitely agree with you that a good trying trip can build character and help a person overcome mental boundaries that they have set for themselves, but IMO what you've described is a bit reckless. You should never give someone a huge dose of a brand new substance because you don't know how they will react to it. Next time start him with something a bit more...reasonable.

A good experience with a drug tends to keep the user coming back for more and makes them more willing to try other new substances.

I made the mistake of giving a friend a moderate dose of 2C-E without even asking how much experience he had with psychs. The experience scared him away from psychs for good. Now he's no longer willing to explore the wonderful beauty of psychedelics.

I wouldn't say tripping builds character as much as it adds an extra dimension to a persons life. People don't become "better", they tend to become more interesting in that their thoughts are no longer hindered by everyday thinking, it's now limitless with infinite possibilities.

Yeah it was reckless and serotonin syndrome is a pretty serious thing. I think I knew he wasn't on any SRI but still. I'd definitely say tripping builds character. Not that it makes you a more moral person but it certainly builds some type of positive character. Even just the aspect of knowing you didn't drop dead after tripping out must alleviate some inner anxiety. I just met these girls who never tripped out and it was just sad.

The June 2011 article Psilocybin occasioned mystical-type experiences: immediate and persisting dose-related effects by Griffiths et al in Psychopharmacology and the September 2011 article Mysitcal experiences occasioned by the hallucinogen psilocybin lead to increases in the personality domain of openness by MacLean et al in the Journal Psychopharmacology (not the same journal as the other) may be of interest - they discuss the long-term changes in people following psilocybin dosing. These include increases in the facets of openness: fantasy (active imagination), aesthetics (appreciation of art and nature), feelings (attentiveness to emotional states), ideas (intellectual curiosity), values (broad-mindedness), and actions (inclination to try new things). Many of these are changes I've noticed in myself and others I know following use of psychedelics :)

I agree that tripping builds character. After my first few mushroom trips I felt like handling the reality of life was much smoother. I realized the subjectivity of every day life. Why do simple things cause so much pain? Because we allow what we perceive as bad control our thoughts.

Marijuana, shrooms, LSD and MDMA have all contributed to a higher state of consciousness. The one thing that seems to go hand in hand with drug culture; especially hallucinogen culture, is the movement from materialistic thought to a wholeness of being.

In the end, I feel that happiness is found within. Not in substances or material objects. This is a revelation I would have never fully appreciated without psychedelics.

Exactly! The morning after I did psilocin I woke up and turned on my computer and started reading about quantum physics and how computers work. Drugs sparked my intellectual curriousity and ever since after I was in the rave scene my grades have been way better because I became interested and passionate about life itself. Which I know it doesn't occur in everyone but it certainly can and has. But in everyone it builds some type of character. Especially the drugs that Renz was talking about. MDMA gave me sympathy. Shrooms made me humble. Marijuana taught me about subjectivity. I haven't done LSD to any high enough dosage but perhaps it will teach me something one day.

Yep. It's one thing to say that but to actually know it is spiritual/mental enlightenment.

So true. When you really think about it, this should be blatantly obvious - it's only because of the twisted way our society views life that it's such a revelation to us...

this thread makes me want to get into psychedellics haha %)

There a many different opinions on the best introduction to psychedelics. Check out the Beginners FAQ for the Psychedelic Drugs Forum - particularly the short list of useful threads for beginners at the end of the first post :)
