Has anyone else had any experience with ambien? (Just wondered if this was a normal thing.) Is it really like acid?
Ok. Last night a friend of mine and I decided to try Ambien. So, I had heard that it was really close to tripping. And I haven't tried acid yet, so.....we tried it. First we smoked out. Then snorted the Ambien. (I have a personal addiction to snorting. Due to the great and almighty meth) The burn wasn't bad at all. It felt kinda different than the other shit I've snorted. It was more of a pins and needles feeling in my face than a pain in my head. Anywho, so I took 10 mgs of the shit. I was cutting up my friend's pill when it really hit me. It literally took me 45 minutes to cut the fucking lines. I had my razor blade in hand staring at the little piles of white dust. I could not cut lines for anything. I kept looking at the dust thinking it was little gingerbread men and stick figures that I was cutting up. So, eventually I got the damn lines cut, and my friend took her 10 mgs. Ok, well, we go outside to smoke a cigerette. I think we sat outside for an hour staring at shit. I saw these imaginary dooways that people were pouring out of. Then I saw this really pretty blue portal. I was staring at the portal in the sidewalk and all of the sudden these soul-like spirits come flying frantically out towards the sky. It was some crazy shit. I don't remember anything else that happened. I was appearently a walking zombie after that. My roommate told me that she saw me fumbling around the room at an "ungodly hour". And That I also kept turning the lights on and off frantically. I woke up at about noon. I really didn't have a bad hangover from it either. I felt a little fucked up still but it subsided pretty quickly.Anyways, that was my Ambien experience.
So, how close is that experience to tripping on acid? Just curious.

10mg is a normal therapeutic dose. There's no way that this would cause someone to "trip out".
"So, how close is that experience to tripping on acid?"
Not even close at all.
Are you sure that you didnt have a little placebo buzz going?

Ford: A lot of people halucinate on ambien the first times they do it. But no it would be nothing like LSD.

Yes, it does apparently for the first few times if you stay awake insted of going to sleep. Even at normal dosages.

Youmay "trip" but it ain't nothing like acid... it's that special trippy feelling you wish would go away!

A few years ago, I intentionally overdosed on ambien by taking 10-20 10mg pills. Yes, take enough and you can completely hallucinate, but you'll also puke your guts out.

AMbien trips I have read just seem odd, not really fun. Snorting it though, you must have a problem.

I have been taking acid for the last 15 years, and have never had the trip I had on 40mgs of Ambien. It was unintentional, I took them to come down from a night of stimulants, and was very different form an acid trip. I did have some visuals, but they were not as strong as visuals on acid. I was completely out of it. I had no idea what was going on. Friends say that I was talking crazy ass shit, and they had never seen me like that. I am usually the one who always maintains control and watches out for everyone. It was crazy. I blacked out and did some embarassing things that I don't remember(1st time that's ever happened). I woke up the next day not really remembering much. Not completely unenjoyable, but very different than acid.

ambien is my drug of choice. I snort it (its ALOT better than eating it) and I instantly get an intense euphoria. If you take alot, you can totally lose connection with reality, experience black outs, or fall down and hurt yourself. If you take a reasonable dose, 20-30mg, you should be fine. Ambien's effects vary alot from person to person. Some dont get any effects while others will have total blackouts, and others will have a great time. Luckily I'm in the last group. Ambien gives me that feeling that you had when you were young and somethings still could be "magical". Its just too much fun.

What is the difference between Sonata and Ambien? Answers, links whatever...
One day I woke up and I didn't have any drugs. It sucked. Then I remembered I had 3 Paxil pills that I didn't think I'd ever take(heard they suck) but kept cause I can't throw away pills. So I took one...1hr...feeling something, but maybe not. Took the other two and began packing my bags for a lovely stay in HELL. I was throwing up(dry), shaking, sweating, freezing, and felt like I had a rash all over my body. So what the fuck does this have to do with Ambien? Well, after that shit wore off (about 7 hours and still feeling funny) I sat thinking theres no way in hell I'm gonna get a comfortable sleep. I had two Sonatas (don't know mg) sitting on my desk so I popped 'em. 45 minutes later I feel NICE. I lay in bed staring at my glow in the dark stars on my ceiling (shut up). I then realized I could make them "bleed" into any shape that came to mind. I felt like I was being lifted out of my bed. I have never had control over my visuals like that (done acid & shrooms more times than I'd like to think about). Total control. Ikept touching my eyes to cause I thought for sure they were closed. I was dreaming while I was awake.
As much as I'd like to re-create that experience, I doubt I will ever see that beautiful place again.
So was it the fact that I had been throwing up all day and eaten nothing, plus the paxil and sonata? Can anything like this be reached solely through Sonata? Did anyone actually take the time to read this long ass shit?

Trying to 'trip' of stupid fucking perscription sleeping pills is one of the saddest, most disrespectful things I can think of. LSD can wonderfully enhance your world in so many complex, beautiful, intelligent ways, that even implying that it is in the same league as meaningless shit like this is offensive to a whole generation of early psychedelic pioneers. Tripping isn't about cool visuals or Gettin FuCKeDD uP MANG.
You, sir, are now officially my hero.

Well said.

Oh come on fox, no need to lie here. If I've ever met anyone who will pop anything to get "mad fucked up" its you.
I met you at whistle 3 and was mad dissapointed at how big of a crack head you turned out to be.
Pushin' 30 years old and still gotta lie about "respecting drugs" crap while you get too fucked up to walk at a party. I bet that was a real spiritual psychadelic experience for you, huh.
You make me ill.

I'll respond to a few things in this thread.
First of all, 10mgs of Ambien can be enough to trip off of. If you keep yourself awake, you will experience hallucinations. In my opinion, the hallucinations are much more like those of disassociatives than anything like classic psychedelics. If I stay awake on 10mgs, I will usually hear voices, see doors (I have no idea why this is so common and routine with Ambien), experience minor patterns consisting of little red or blue squares the morph into shapes like people, etc. There was another time I took 10mgs before going to sleep and I was drawing, completely forgot what the fuck was going on and I was convinced I must have taken ketamine (even though I hadn't for over 2 years). I called my girlfriend and had a very disorientated conversation and kept asking her if I had taken K and if so where I got it from because I hadn't remember getting any in years. I will mention that I am pretty sensitive to this stuff. It generally takes my friends about 20mgs to get this effect.
In this, I already clarified that this is NOT your classic trip. It doesn't take things that you already see and work from there as with acid. While you may see colors and patterns, most of the hallucinations just happen and are not extensions of real objects you are looking at. Also keep in mind that this drug is designed to make you sleep.. fuck.. knock you out in a lot of cases. You are not going to be clear headed at all. If you take this with a friend, you'll be having a conversation then you won't remember what's going on and the next thing you know you're talking about how the Chinese Army took over Antarctica yesterday and you'll be making up new words that make perfect sense to you. It's a very confusing experience most of the time.
So don't go taking Ambien thinking you're going to have an LSD-like trip off of it. The experience has a few psychedelic aspects to it, but for the most part it's much more disassociative-like while incorporating visual and audio hallucinations. In a way, the whole tripping off Ambien hype is very similar to the old drug lore stories of how you can trip off of Dramamine, except Ambien is much more likely to be pleasant, both physically and as an experience at whole.
If you're curious about the physical effects, well.. you're in luck. There aren't too many other than loss of coordination. As long as you're not taking some huge amount (let's say you're staying below 30mgs), you probably WON'T get nauseas, won't puke, won't get a headache, your body won't feel sore, etc. etc. etc. The only real side effects are being tired (you just took a sleeping pill, duh) and possibly being disorientated for a few hours after waking up.
If you're trying this for your first time, I highly suggest you only try 10mgs. Ambien will knock most people the fuck out, so you should get used to how it feels first and you definantly can have an experience on only 10mgs, but I would say that is your starting point. If you really feel more adventurous, go with 20mgs, but this will probably knock you out. And you definantly would not want/need to go over 40mgs max. There is no way any normal human being should need more than this to have an all out experience and most likely going above this point is doing some damage. Also, you absolutely do NOT need to snort this drug. It only takes about 30 minutes to start effecting you if taken orally and should work about the same. Despite what others have said, this stuff burned the shit out of my nose and my companions nose, has a nasty drip (although it doesn't last too long) and didn't seem to be much noticeably stronger than eating it. As far as 10mgs goes, I'd say snorting it makes it feel as if you've eaten 12mgs.. not a big difference. So if you don't want to snort it, don't feel like it's not going to work if you don't.
Another point of interest: I have taken a 5mg Ambien pills, removed the coating, split it in half, and injected 2.5mgs. The effects are quite different from eating or snorting it. The onset is IMMEDIATE. My eyes became weak and everything looked "different", but it was subtle. My depth perception was way off. My sense of balance GONE. I had this strange feeling come over my head, like a physical sensation of a wave starting from my forhead to the back of my neck. I felt VERY tired but kept myself awake for fear that I might stop breathing.. I was very disorientated. My thoughts were coming very slow. The experience lasted about an hour, then diminished over the period of another hour. The experience can be summed up like this: you've just pushed the slow motion button on your body. It's not euphoric. It's not "fun". And you definantly aren't going to trip or get anything close to it. I would NOT recommend it, there is nothing worthwhile to get out of it. This is something I could imagine giving to a paranoid schizophrenic who was freaking out. I just posted this because I thought some of you might have found it interesting that someone was stupid enough to actually try it (I had no dope or painkillers, I was withdrawing and just wanted to shoot SOMETHING other than plain water).
As for someone getting angry at comparing or putting Ambien on the same level as LSD.. WHAT A BUNCH OF FUCKING BULLSHIT. The average LSD user is a high school kid smoking bong loads on it watching cult movies and talking about "how fucking cool that shit looks, man!". LSD is about as spiritual as my non-existant as hair. Spiritual people may have spiritual trips. Most people just "trip balls, yo!".
Infact, there is not ONE single drug I'm aware of that gives every user a spiritual experience, not even ayahuasca. The type of experience attained by a drug is 110% dependant on the user's mind frame and attitude. Someone who just likes to get fucked up will almost always just get fucked up no matter what they take and get nothing more out of it.
Not to mention, out of all the classic psychedelics, LSD is kindergarten crap and doesn't even have the advantage of being grown from the earth and having spirits inhabiting it like shrooms or peyote if you want to be some gay hippy "psychonaut" aka someone who justifies being a druggy who just happens to like psychedelics by telling themselves somehow getting fucked up is going to revolutionize their mind and the world.
Yeah.. Native Americans took a lot of psychedelics, they were spiritual people yada yada yada.. most South American tribes also encourage rape, women-beating, orgies and hell, they puke for fun. They aren't super humans or above the moral standards of any other people. They have deeply religious theocracies and societies and happen to incorporate psychedelic drugs. Otherwise they're just like every other race/group of people on earth and they have their own problems and flaws and hypocracies like everyone else.

I'm with SovietContin on this one..I've been on Ambien for 2 yrs now, I take 15 mgs-20 mgs a night to "help me sleep" I weigh like 90lbs....I used to smoke and roll and trip with my friends but can't anymore I was diagnoised with bipolar disorder so I look forword to my "pseudo trip" every night most night I try my hardest to stay awake(anyone that's ever taken it knows this can be hard)and usually do not remember anything..I didn't even remebr getting arrested. It might not be as strong or whatever as other drugs but it works for me and I think as long as something works for you it's okay...

Amen, SovietContin........
