Tripping in silence

....as opposed to having music or something.

Anyone tried it? I'm interested what new dimensions this might bring to (or take away from) a trip. I suspect it may make me more introspective, but might put me on edge more as well. I'm not sure.

Has anyone had any experiences with this?

There's no such thing as silence, or complete silence. The composer John Cage found this out and profited from it. Buddhist monks with their nada sounds, chanting/meditations, and singing bowls have also discovered this.

OK That can be very fun and interesting try it in a dark room or a room with just a friend sitting there breathing and thinking, maybe lit with some candles or blacklights.

I personally love doing this. It seems to make me much more dissociated, and my ego fades away much easier. It's like music and sound is a lifeline that holds you in reality when you're on psychedelics.

I've noticed that when it's really quiet (no music or people talking), I get more audio hallucinations. It's like my brain needs some sort of auditory stimulation, and starts playing around with something like the buzzing of the ceiling lights or the wind outside, stretching and distorting those noises.

I love tripping in "silence." Music is fun, but to let your mind drift off into the background noise, especially when you are in the countryside, is beautiful. The distant sounds of birds chirping or the wind blowing is like music to the soul.

Or, if it's nighttime, the frogs and crickets. Or, if it's actually much quieter, you get to hear the contents of your mind much clearer.

Wow couldnt of put it much better myself Cyb ! And yes ive also tripped without music, infact when i had my first solo trip ( Trip alone ) last year, i did it without any music, and yes i would agree with others it helps introspection, and your thoughts seem much calmer and clearer.

You realy find out if you " Like " yourself aswell, if you get what i mean.

McKenna raved about it, I find it to be frightening, however I ingested 300mcg LSD about 2 months ago and spent the first hour in silence meditating then opened my eyes and put on Sphongle. If you already know yourself I would say this is pretty pointless, if you are trying to learn more about you. This might be the best exercise.

I'd love the chance to trip in absolute silence (or as close to it as I can).

A couple of drops of nice Lucy and this room and I'd be in heaven:

I recently did an iso tank trip. 3h session and 2.5g of some homegrown mushrooms.

Like Drunkards said, there's no such thing as absolute silence, and the sounds that your mind creates from your bodily functions (heart beating, stomach churning, blood flowing, assorted gurgling sounds from your organs) are amazing.

Funny, I often need to wander around, get out the house etc.

But on these new lysergides I felt that the effects bore more attention, & because of the long aproach I spent the first hour on Al & alot of my LSz laying back & breathing deeply. When the drug hits it comes along with a sense of relaxation that I find quite rare amongst psychedelics & the trips have been particularly sedate & peaceful. Obviously, relative peace & quiet helps the relaxation process.

I do love wacking the headphones on & travelling to some pumping trance & I find it quite paradoxic that such full-on, energetic music is also capable of producing a mellow, tranced out, horizontal trippings...

its alright i guess, not really my cup of tea. i like to play around with sensory perception. there have been some trips where i prefer to just go into my own consciousness, but for me thats not really what psychedelics are about. i like to explore the inside and the outside, and have the trip take the reigns and lead me wherever the flow takes it.

but i have had a few trips recently where i ended up in quiet places without music, there seems to always be some sort of ambient noise happening in the background. when you are dosed up enough that can be just as entertaining as music though!

I've tripped in silence, but with something like LSD I need music that can snap me out of mind looping.

I've never done it, but I imagine it'd be more enjoyable if you had some good experience with whatever drug beforehand.

Dr Rick Doblin had a 17 hour session in a isolation tank whilst on LSD. Sounded intense but quite rewarding.

John Lily had some pretty ridiculous experiences with ketamine and LSD in an isolation chamber, so much so he began to bieve aliens were attempting to contact him.
I could easily imagine how sensory deprivation combined with powerful psychedelics could drive one insane
