How can I make my highs more clear? Am I looking for something impossible here? It's like a trade-off: When you're very high, you become incredibly creative but it's at the expense of skill (you're too fucked up to execute anything complex). It's frustrating. The solution is not to get as high, but when you're on a functional dose, you're not as inspired!

The same thing happens when I am waking up in the morning. As I lay in my bed, I have musical ideas, but as soon as I reach for the recorder, I have already started to forget.

The Holy Grail would be something that didn't make you uncontrollably manic or just so fucked up that you didn't know where you were.

Just wake up and record it immediately.

My memory has gotten dicey as of late, so any riff I know I'll want later I throw to tape asap.

Dichotomies are often a little icky but looking at the 'irrational' part of a memorable tripping experience sometimes you have to be far out, losing rational constructs such as linear time-event constructions and usual conceptual thought to be able to witness and understand processes of other levels. IME it is by definition of this 'transit' itself impossible to take back many essential things from such an experience.

The only things you can take back (think about it) are values that define you but they have adapted to irrationality, or a narrative that has to be translated rationally to make sense to yourself or others to communicate it to.

An alternative is a very lucid psychedelic (LSD is quite lucid IMO) that can catalyze rational thought and offer insight very readily! But as the dose and/or intensity of the experience increases and with it often the level of internal/external processes often involving relativity and perennial metaphysics...you make the transit to a meta-view where everything is condensed into a state of resolution.
Upon coming back though the integration of the self becomes predominant again and to it, every other concept unrelated to it specifically has to yield and stay in this realm of timelessness.

I had a friend in college who made his own electronic music, largely inspired by tripping. Sometimes he would work while peaking, but if it wasn't working out or didn't appeal to him, he would not worry and just do something else. Most of the time, he would get his best work done on the comedown and the day after. A lot of my musician friends who got inspiration from psychedelics preferred to do the actual recording/producing/playing relatively clear-headed.

Depending on what sort of ideas you have, you could try writing them down and waiting to do the technical aspects until you're more sober. If it's less "here's a spiffy melodic progression I should use" and more "here's some crazy indescribable sound I want to reproduce," then it might not be any easier to write yourself useful notes than to do it in the first place, but a sort of 'dream journal' for tripping might help with ideas that can easily be written down. Plus, even if you only plan to use it for recording song ideas, I bet you'll end up with some lulzy rambling thoughts about other random subjects as well after a few sessions.

High dose LSD. Its beautiful. Im pretty functional even when things get pretty crazy. I never get "the fear", so i push it kind of far when i can.

2c-i was pretty mentally calm in my opinion, but visual intensity was astounding.

bk-mdma is like a few cups of coffee lift in energy with lots of warm and happy. It doesn't really feel fucked up, but it feels really nice.

2c-b is pretty awesome, 20mg or so is considered an amount the average person can be in public on, and its a pretty visual experience, very comfortable. But yea, i feel that it could be productive.

^This.

I got a job on a high dose of LSD.. Trying not to laugh wildly and say inappropriate things was a mission. But I pulled it off lol

I find the come down is the best time to work on music, and if you can muddle through it while you're peaking, just record what little you can and listen to it again later, the idea will generally snap back as soon as you listen to it.
