Hi all,

I'm in the processing of developing and easy-to-use Android program exclusively for Bluelight members called Trip Reporter.

It will work on any Android powered cell phone, records no personal information and easily uploads to our web server for you to download your trip report off of at any time for upload to the web.

Using a built-in time keeping function, you can accurately track the time it takes for effects of the drug you are taking to kick in, then it allows you to easily record notes on your experience.

Are you so high that typing is almost impossible? Well, with the push of a button Trip Reporter turns into a microphone. While keeping track of your time log, it will allow you to speak into your phone to record your experience if typing on the keyboard becomes too hard.

The Beta version will include a new feature known as Digital Sitter!

What Digital Sitter does is allow you to enter in emergency contact info for one, or multiple, of your friends. Simply tell them that you're going to be "tripping" and you'd them like to be aware if anything happens. Once they OK it, put in their cell phone number and let Digital Sitter do the rest.

If at anytime during your trip something bad happens and moving or talking become hard or almost impossible, just push the Emergency Digital Sitter button and one-by-one Trip Reporter will use your phone to call and/or text the contacts you entered in.

Your emergency text messages will tell them that you activated Digital Sitter and are experiencing a problem, requesting them to immediately come over and check on your status.

You can even program the Digital Sitter feature to ask them to call an ambulance for you, OR you can even have Trip Reporter call 911 for you! With the push of a button, Trip Reporter will call the police and use the latest advancements in Text-To-Speech technology to speak to them for you. By speaking a predefined selection of phrases, Trip Reporter and Digital Sitter will tell the 911 operator for you that you are experiencing an emergency and can not speak, then it will give them your address or GPS coordinates of your location and tell them to send an ambulance immediately.

--------------------------------------------------

Now's here where YOU come in! I certainly don't want to waste my time or resources on a project that could fail. I would like input from Bluelight members as to whether or not I should proceed with project.

In the spirit of Open Source software, Trip Reporter will always be FREE (possibly ad supported).

Trip Reporter is not only a tool designed to give you the freedom of expression and easily help you to record your trip experiences, but may also save your life, along with hundreds of others.

Thanks for looking!

Sounds like a fantastic contribution man, I could see this being very useful!!

Any intention to develop an iOS version in the future?

Unless I get help from an iOS programmer, then no. I do not have the resources to develop for iOS nor do I own an iPhone or similar device to test on.

Sorry.

Sounds like an awesome idea!

As for getting it onto iOS, if you ever do manage to partner up with an iOS developer I for see issues with getting this kind of app onto iTunes due to the content it would be delivering - harm reduction or not...

I'm sure there are certain work-arounds in the description department that could let this app in under the radar.

"Trip Reporter - Record all of your experiences from your vacation to parts unknown! Make your friends jealous with accurate reporting of all your experiences!

Have a pet at home that needs some TLC while you're off exploring? No problem! With the Digital Sitter function, alert a friend that you require assistance!" etc.

iTunes lets some pretty retarded apps into their store, I don't see why something like this wouldn't make the cut. All of the Bluelighters would be in the know, and everyone would be none the wiser.

you might want to make that really hard to do accidentally. or just leave it out.

Well, the Digital Sitter is designed to be foolproof. I'm making this program with the understanding that a lot of people who use it are going to be high as hell, lol.

I've been so screwed up before I couldn't move or type on my computer. Hand-eye coordination was completely useless for me.

The Digital Sitter will be a button in the bottom-right corner of your phone screen. Once you push it, it opens up a serious of large, easy to read buttons. From there, choose the one you want and then it will confirm one more time if that's what you want it to do.

The point is for YOU to pre-program the Digital Sitter with it's call responses before you get fucked up. If you fail to do that, you might call someone else or the police on accident when your messed up.

In the settings you can even disable the 911 calls, although not advised, to prevent any possible accidental calls to the police.

I'll ask him if he may interested in helping with this so we all can enjoy such a great idea

Awesome idea!

I think that calling to the friends is better idea than calling to the police/ambulance.

Sounds fantastic!
I wouldn't be opposed to paying for something like that just to avoid the ad's. Maybe release a free and a pro version so that the option is there to avoid the ads is there.

I probably will, although it's only going to be privately sold to Bluelight Members. I might reach out and make a customized version for Erowid users as well, that will upload trip reports directly to Erowid's database. But I haven't spoken to them about this idea yet, so don't hold your breath.

I'll have some screenshots up in a few hours showing the basic conceptual layout of the application.

Expect the first beta release to come out on Bluelight only before the month is up.

The beta versions won't have ad's in them. I won't put those in until the release candidate is published.

Well Trip Reporter will be legally registered under my company's name. And I don't intend to publicly release the source code anytime soon.

So if there's an iOS developer out there interested in porting Trip Reporter over to iPhones, iPads and iPods then he should email me at [email protected].

At that point in time, I'll consider releasing rights to him/her to duplicate my application for iOS platforms. But that's all it will ever be, just a copy of my Android design.

I'm what my friends lime to call "technitarded".. Mind explaining?

Alpha and Beta versions of software are known as pre-releases. Meaning, it's a release to a group of people for testing purposes only. Anything released under an Alpha or a Beta title is not considered to be a final product and may include software bugs or glitches that need to be ironed out before the programs official release.

Once Beta testing is completed and the software has been changed accordingly to fix any bugs or glitches that the Beta testers have reported to the developer, then the software moves to an RC title, which stands for Release Candidate.

A program published as a Release Candidate is usually semi-final. Meaning, more than likely that's how the program will be officially published, although Release Candidates can receive upgrades or enhancements before the programs official release, they usually one. An RC release will usually only receive minor enhancements to the code before it's released to the public.

Once all Alpha, Beta and RC stages have been cleared, the software is assigned a release version number, usually beginning with Version 1.3.0 in most cases.

For software, a Version number is separated into 3 parts. The first number stands for the Major version release, the second number is for the Minor version release, and the last number stands for updates to the Minor version. Although for most company's, they never show the last number in their version title.

So once Trip Reporter is released, it will be released as Version 1.3.0 for the public.

Which means, it's Major version 1, Minor version 3 (meaning it's been through Alpha, Beta and RC releases), and the last 0 stands for no enhancements after the Release Candidate.

If I change the code in a minor way that the public won't notice, I'll reupload the software and change the version to 1.3.1 meaning it's had 1 minor enhancement since it's official release. If I do something minor, but noticeable to the public, I'll change it to version 1.4.1, meaning it's had 1 more Minor upgrade along with 1 code enhancement. And of course, if I do something that is very significant to the software, ultimately changing a major part of how it looks or operates, then I'll change the Major version number to 2.4.1.

A lot of companies choose to reset the Minor and Enhancement version numbers after a major release, but I choose not to so that the public can continuously see the version changes and effort I put into my software.

Hope this explains a little.

Yes, I understand.
Thanks for taking the time to explain that.
Can't wait for the release :)

Think it will be ready by Coachella?

Wow. I'd use this. The microphone feature will be excellent. I struggle to type accurately on my phone as it is.

Can't wait to try out the beta.

dunno if I would want something like this on my phone.

worried it would phone home :/

No need to worry my friend. I've been a Bluelight member for a while now and haven't been accused of conspiracy or snitching yet. :-)

I can tell by your statement that if you own an Android phone, you're probably a novice user who may have purchased one for its cool features or access to Angry Birds, no offense.

Any Android superuser would tell you that a program such as mine can easily be "figured" out. The only outbound communication it will make is to upload your trip report to my company website for you to be able to download it.

To ease the minds of the conspiracy theorists the program will also give you the ability to download saved trip reports from your phone to your computer, if you can figure it out, lol.

And like I said, if you're smart enough to figure it out, and I'm sure people will check, you can pretty easily determine whether or not the application is making outbound communications from your phone without your consent.
